I have a AMD Sempron 2600+ processor in my laptop, it says in my system information it is a
X86 family 15 model 28 stepping 0 authentic amd 1603mhz.

What i want to know is could i put something like a 3400+ processor or higher in it? i don't know what motherboard i have though.

Cheers.

Hmm, you should be able to put in an AMD turion processor, which would be much faster still.

You see these mobile semprons were socket 754 and so were the turions, but you'd need to get an ML3x or MT3x series turion. eg an ml32

Its not an easy operation though, and depending on the brand the CPU may actually be soldered straight to the motherboard, and thus unchangable.

Well my laptop seems a little slow however it only has 256mb ram in it but the graphics is shared and it only leaves me with 192mb ram, i am going to upgrade to 1gb ram but that probably wont make too much difference, it will improve things a little though.

That will certainly help, you can find out how much ram you're using by pressing ctrl alt del and selecting performance (in XP).

Make sure you use antistatic precautions (RAM is very sensitive)

Add more RAM, you may not need to bother with the processor.

can you remove the CPU though, Not many have proper upgrade CPU ability. I've had 3 laptops where the CPU is solded direct to the motherboard. The Dell i have now is the the only one that can be upgraded by swapping the chip like a PC.
