What are other people's opinions of them? maxddb 08-09-2007, 22:03 I have always loved the breed , but I have never owned one. I am hoping soon to rescue an adult, although I realise that the breed are hard work with th coat etc. I still love them though!!!! Gemima 09-09-2007, 17:21 Again they are a lovely breed, but a nightmare to keep that coat clean and mat free. If I owned one it would have to be clipped short I am afraid.:hihi: bobtailbabe 12-09-2007, 15:04 hi I got 2 old english franke and alice I have owned oes for 13 yrs and as far as im concerned theres no other breed like them as said before the coat care is hard work Ive been at alice 3 days now and nearly finished if its just to be kept as a pet its best to have a cut called the teddy bear not too short but long enough to need a brush and it looks so cute not very many breeders around now but beware of the puppy farmers if you are really interested and need any advice needed pm me and i`ll steer you on the right track of reputable breeders that i know through showing my dogs Lindseyw 12-09-2007, 15:26 I can confirm that Frankie & Alice are ADORABLE ! Their coats look fab. bobtailbabe 12-09-2007, 15:31 Thanks for that Lindseyw I try my best but as my arthrtis is getting more of a grip now i`m thinkin of having them clipped think the show days are over for a while Destiny 14-09-2007, 00:48 Beautiful dog they are too, but i always wondered.............can they paint????? (Dulux paint adverts)....lmao. :D bobtailbabe 17-09-2007, 16:07 one of mine could lol we just painted the kitchen wall and she got paint all over her coat and then walked down the hallway leaving a nice yellow stripe across the wallpaper :hihi: slimsid2000 26-03-2009, 16:25 anyone else here got one? swfcgal 26-03-2009, 17:10 We had one many years ago when I was young but he was put down about 12 years ago but I must say he was one of the best dogs I have ever had! We had him clipped on a regular basis (roughly every 6 months) so grooming him wasn't really an issue but I do remember my dad telling me how much he had spent on food for Benji!!! I remember an occasion when I was about 10 when my nan had left a chicken to defrost on the top of her car in the garage and Benji had managed to slip out to the garage and climb onto the car to snaffle the lot :hihi: On a more serious note though, given the chance (once my kids are grown up and left home!) I am definitely going to get a OES! maxddb 26-03-2009, 17:10 I've got one his name is Dillon and he is rescued and gorgeous:hihi: He is about 18 months old now unfortunately he has a bad heart murmur but he doesn't need medication as yet Shelectric 26-03-2009, 17:22 I have never had a dog but when i was about 9 I had a really detailed dream about an old english sheep dog, we were best friends and he saved me from drowning but died. This dream really stuck with me and for that reason I love these dogs, still makes me sad to think of it now! slimsid2000 27-03-2009, 18:21 http://www.breederretriever.com/photopost/data/569/sheepdog.jpg swfcgal 27-03-2009, 18:44 Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! So damn cute! hodgepig66 27-03-2009, 23:54 they are a beautiful breed very layed back and loving, i groom a few but have to say hard work if you want to keep the coat long, but well worth the effort gapmichael 28-03-2009, 00:21 Just thought I'd add my little bit. I have an OES. His name is Tristan and he is 7 years old. He is my first Old English Sheepdog and when I first got him at 8 weeks old I didn't have a clue what I was letting myself in for. I keep him in full coat. I have to run the brushes through his coat every night. Once every week we get in the shower and the shampoo comes out (not his favourite pastime I must say) but I try to make it fun for him and he knows that if he stands still while I scrub him he'll be out sooner and there's always a treat for him when we get out. Then the hairdryer comes next. Bless him...he has to stand for ages before he's completely dry and I won't let him out while he's wet incase he gets too cold. They have 2 coats and when you use shampoo, the undercoat becomes less waterproof so I like to get himdry as quickly as possible. Poor thing has to cross his legs for about 4 hours before he can go for a wee. I love him more than anything and wouldn't have changed a thing. If anyone is thinking of getting one please please please make sure you know how much time and space they need. :D slimsid2000 03-04-2009, 15:08 Tristan sounds a lovely dog. He has obviously brought you much happyness. |
