If anyone moved from Staffordshire to Sheffield can you tell me how long it took to settle in.

Also does anyone know where to find good little gift shops.

Welcome to Sheffield,
Where in Staffordshire are you from if you don't mind me asking? It depends what sort of gifts you want but I would suggest Ecclesall Road and Sharrowvale as there's lots of little quirky shops along there with cool gifts.

I'm nearly from Staffs :D Took about 6 months ish I think. I was at uni though, which I think makes it easier.
Evolution in Orchard Square - I 'rediscovered' it today, it's cool!

That sounds like very near to where I come from :suspect: I was just over the border...

I'm from Stone! (Inbetween Stoke and Stafford).

You will settle in easy love.
I've been here for nearly fifteen years.

I'm from Biddulph and been working in Sheffield for 4 years, living here for 2. Love it and will not move back to Staffs again. Long way to go and watch Port Vale though !!

I'm originally from Staffordshire (the Northern end) but don't quite see why it has any bearing on whether it's easy to settle in Sheffield or not. Surely a lot of it is about your attitude to the people who you live near/work with...like everywhere, most people are OK and Sheffield has a lot of plus points. I don't want to leave! Gift shops - Ecclesall Road is a good start.

I'm from Wolves' so that doesn't count really...near stafford road though, does that count :hihi:

Settled in, no never, hate the place...I mean come on, silly accents, far too laid back, I mean what's all this about town being shut:hihi: on sundays?

Gift shops....dunno, would go for eccy road I think.

hermes beat me to it!

i  sheffield!!!! i came to uni here in 1997 and then spent 3 years after i graduated trying to find a decent job with the means to get back here.

i moved back in 2004 and bought my house here last year, so i reckon im here to stay for a while.

as for settling in, i pretty much settled in straight away. sheffield offers me city life with the benefits of small town life but without the claustrophobia.

i hope youll be very happy here- once youve got used to everyone calling you 'love'! ;)

as for gift shops, if youre looking for sheffield specific gifts, there is a little place down surry street (almost opposite the winter gardens) that specialises in sheffield ware, and the millenium galleries migth be worth a gander too.

hope that helps and welcome!

Hi,
My mum hails from Stafford. After marrying my dad they lived all over the place, but twenty years ago they moved here and she said it allways felt like home.
My 93 year old granny just moved here from Stafford too and she's never lived anywhere else, she thinks she's in a film at the moment though, thinks it's amazing that's she's moved 'so far away'.
I'm sure you'll settle in just fine. On the whole we're a freindly bunch.
Some good gift shops in Broomhill and try Orchard square in town, don't miss the bookbinder up the stairs for local hand made stuff.

I think Wolverhampton was in Staffordshire once. I know West Brom was because all of my family are from there.

Nice to see a few Staffs lot on here! My mum used to work in Stafford for the council. I think she worked in housing. Long time ago now. We were always a bit more Stoke orientated.

I grew up in Tamworth, so lived there almost 20 years. I much prefer Sheffield, I have to say. More to do, nicer place, friendlier. South Staffs is too influenced by Birmingham. Saying that, though, I'm not slamming my Midlands roots.

Quirky shops - plenty along Devonshire Green area, the end of London Rd (e.g. Airy Fairy), and Evolution as previously mentioned. Also The Lanes in Meadowhall if you can stand it.

Thanks everyone, I've got some things from 'Partmental store' on Ecclesall road today. Someone said Stone, well I worked in a tiny office in Whitebridge lane industrial estate there was a snooker hall there, access by bridge over the canal.

The buses are really good here. Tradesmen are good here, Cityroofing did a good job on my woodengutters. My freeview arial fitted by Amsat still works.

Papillon was a good film.

Today got a box from OrchardSqEvolution for £6.50 I red a sign inside saying they do fair trade with poorer countries so money well spent.
