View Full Version : What are the best cooking shows on TV ?
What are your favorite and the best cooking shows on tv, we use to get Jamie Oliver, he's good, don't see much of him anymore.
PS. and Snook , just not to waste your time replying, the reality shows on tv, eating worms and bugs are NOT COOKIN SHOWS !
I still like the old fave, Ready Steady Cook :)
I like the bit at the added at the end with the extra cooking bit,
Susie
xx
Ooooh, Ainsley does my head in on that. He's too in your face, and interferes too much. I prefered it when lovely Fern presented it...
MY fave is saturday kitchen, I love Wozza! He looks like a garden gnome... Although the yummy stuff they make, makes me extra disappointed with "Vitalite resting on a bed of warmed bread, served with a mug of herb soaked jus" (toast and tea to the rest of us...)
You can't beat Keith Floyd
I'm with you Miss - Saturday Kitchen all the way!
I used to like Rick Stein but then he got very pretentious, now I like Tamasin Day-Lewis, Nigella and the Two Fat Ladies.

I agree with you on Rick Stein Nick, I even went into his Restaurant that was a big mistake.....on the wallet. T-D-Lewis does nothing for me, and neither does Nigella, the Two Fat Ladies are/were an amazing couple to watch. You should try to find Clarissa Dixon Wright's autobiography it is a great read of how she has gone bankrupt several times and conquered alcoholism, yet still comes out of it and is able to enjoy life to the full.
We watch television X, but its not on until 11pm.
Oh! sorry, Cooking, Will have to get some glasses

The two fat ladies is as much about the stories they tell as the food, "I remember eating onion sandwiches by the pool in Berlin" or "I once cooked this for the Swedish royal family", etc. etc.

I loved the one about Clarissa, when she was asked why she had spent so much money when she was close to being bankrupt, the classic reply was........"I needed it for the champagne for my fathers funeral" That's class pure class

I quite like the casual xenophobia too like "The Dutch realy are a horrible race, but they do make good cocoa".
Any of Deliah's shows are allways down to earth and full of good tips and helpful advice. She doesn't find it necessary to create a mystique around the subject, which makes you more confident to tackle her creations.
On the subject of the great Saturday Kitchen... Did anyone ever watch the re-runs of the Galloping Gormet that they used to show?
The chef on there used to get totally leathered as he cooked and forget vital ingrediants. A true classic.
Not really into them although River Cottage is ok sometimes.
MuteWitness 25-01-2005, 23:30 big cook little cook, well thats the only cooking show on in this house!
JonJParr 26-01-2005, 11:12 Rick Stein pretentious? Explain yourself!
But my favourite cookery programmes on TV are Return of the Chef (John Burton Race) and Saturday Morning Kitchen.
