Greybeard 07-01-2005, 16:17 There's a Met Office warning of severe gales tonight and tomorrow morning for South Yorks......
http://www.metoffice.com/weather/europe/uk/yorkslincs.html#warning
Is it windy, hadn't noticed. :suspect:
They're on the ball those Met Office people!
Same here Snook, had to stop earlier to remove the wheelie bins from in the middle of the road :suspect:
moongarden 07-01-2005, 17:11 i've got to go to work sat and sun to check the outside of the building :) since it is in a really exposed place and we have already had the wind pushing rain under the doors and the roof leaking
The wind outside at the moment is beginning to get a little too scary now!! It's almost sucking the windows right out!:help:
incognito 07-01-2005, 22:00 same here.
our paper wheelie bin went flying a couple of days ago - both gardens now look like a newspaper graveyard!
darent send kids out to clear it or they might get blown onto east bank road!!!
sue :)
Hmmm... feeling alittle nervous myself... live in an attic flat... You can feel it when the wind blows... its a horrible feeling... hard to explain really... :?
My window frame is creaking badly, I just hope it holds all night!!
Our bins blew away somewhere this morning, but I found them this evening and brought them back. They better not blow away again!

I'm gonna hide under my duvet an hope is all better in the morning... :?
Hi Angel,
It's morning and it ain't much better....
Every now and again there's a big gust that blows open the cat flap and makes our incumbents think a ghost cat has entered.
When I pop my head out this morning I'd etter remember to look at the roof. Just to ensure that it's all still up there.
And remember, children, if you do happen to end up being whisked off by a wind and deposited in a garishly coloured landscape just click your heels together three times and chant 'There's no place like home' and you'll be back here in a flash....:)

You want to try being at the top of the Empire State Building in December. When there's a gust of wind you can feel the whole thing move.

Awww how cute is that :D
I hated it last night, finally managed to get to sleep about 4am this morning, I have a fire place in my bedroom and the howling in that was so loud, then there was trees banging against the windows, wasnt nice at all.
This morning wasnt much better, had to nip to town and got hit by several bits of flying debris, town was okay, but the village wasnt great!

Sorry to hear you had such a rough night Susie... It is one thing that scares me... strong wind... I have experienced 2 hurricanes down South... not pleasant... One being during the night Oct 87 (real bad) and the other not sure but that was during the day... not nice being able to watch your fences/sheds etc blow apart... :(
Lets hope it all calms down a bit by tonight... So we can all relax again an have a good night sleep :)

They're on the ball those Met Office people!
I guess they have to after Michael Fish getting the weather slightly wrong back in 1987...
It is rather breezy isn't it...
Ah well at least we aren't experiencing the flooding that Carlisle is - apparantly no way in or out of Carlise!
my out house roof has blown off.
Bet the council wont fix it.
Well there goes my new back garden fencing, but if the wind can rip up tree's & blow vans over, 2 foot of concrete ain't gonna work, but I will get it sorted once the winds have gone, just as long as no one got hurt thats all that matters maybe.

They're excuse is always... cause of nature...
Walking up the hill to Deejay towers was a struggle last night.. And not just because of the alcohol intake..
2 steps forward, gust of wind, then 4 steps back :shakes:

Downhill yes :P Uphill in Strong winds is another matter :help:
I think the winds done something to our guttering, water was pouring through the top of the frame at 4am. Bedroom is now cold and damp. Bought a silacone sealent and hoping that holds it for now
crowefan 08-01-2005, 15:54 took my dog maddie out for a walk and she looked like a small fat hairy kite..............
ohdonnyboy 08-01-2005, 17:48 two lorries blown over on the m18...take care if using the roads
The wind is getting really scary again now!! . . thought it was over but it's blowing bins over again here in Fir Vale!:o
At least you guys were all tucked up at home - we've spent the past 2 days stranded in Scotland by the floods and high winds.
They know how to build their houses up there though - foot thick sandstone. Nice and safe :D

Tiles came off my sister's roof at 4am Sunday morning too... must have been one hell of a big gust that just so happened to that kinda damage... scary! :o
Loud winds again last night... I look forward to it calming down later today and hope it doesnt return... :?
Plain Talker 10-01-2005, 06:47 Angel, I agree, totally,
I had a friend who lived in the high-rise on Claywood, when the flats were still standing (14th floor), and also had a cousin who lived on the top floor of one of the Norfolk park flats (15th floor)
I tell you, I used to be absolutely terrified when the winds were blowing
(I don't like heights at the best of times, but when the whole flaming block is swaying ! Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was horrible! you could see the light fittings swaying. it made you feel seasick!)
I hate:- heights, ladders, bridges, .. platform shoes(!!!)
I and mr PT both suffer from a condition called "Terra Firma".
we are adamant...
the more "firmer" the less "terror" LOL
I remember when I lived on Hyde Park, I used to walk right on the inside edge of the landings, more-or less on the doorsteps to teh flats. (Indeed, mr pt observed, one day "If you were any further in, you'd be walking inside the houses!!) I hated being near the balcony-edge.
As for gales, I was at the very exposed tramstop, Arbourthorne road (the one that was beside the brown high-rise) one very windy day, a couple of years ago, and had a horrendous experience.
I was terrified that the windows on the tram stop would give way, becaue they were bending ounder the force of the wind. then, suddenly, my dog was caught by a gust of wind that lifted him off his feet, and in front of the tram. It scared the life out of me, I thought he was a goner!! I still had hold of his lead, but he was up in the air about a foot!
