Yes your right, and people who care are in a bad situation too because if we take away the dogs they no longer want it just leaves a space for a new dog to be used and abused, and the poor scared dogs need so much work to get them confident and back into shape.
What can you do though cant just ignore it and leave them there can you :(

I just looked on the website and there seems loads of labradors around the age of 4-6 who have been used as stud dogs and who are now up for re-homing. How do you know which are puppy farms and which arent? :(

Any luck with this one Hunni?

Have to say, he looks quite happy to me  Not saying it's not a puppy farm - the barred pens certainly suggest it is and the fact he is nervous with people but good with animals suggests he could be around the dogs but gets very little contact from the 'breeders' however, one of mine is nervous of people despite being properly cared for and socialised.

I just wanted to say that he doesn't look nervous to me... maybe it's because I am used to seeing my happy, confident Eddy who looks very worried on photographs..

i've had a look and there's 365 dogs for sale or rehoming on the actual site, all with different addresses.
i wonder if this one is a "returned to breeder" dog.?
might not be a puppy farm just a breeder.

I was shocked at how many dogs were on that site aswell. Not because they were up for re-homing but because of how many ads specifically said that the dog had been used for breeding! Its like saying..........'I used this dog to make money and now its past its use by date!'..................so annoying!

i have to agree.
to date i got my first blue roan @ 18months 'cos she wouldn't have a season and couldn't be bred from.
i got my first orange roan -an unwanted breeding bitch 4 years old - 3 litters.
i got my second blue roan - similar circumstances
and i got our male orange roan - initially @ 11months old to foster him,he was to be stud dog.within 2 onths i "owned" him.
except number 1 - all the others were from the same breeder - who bred them in a semi detached house in a housing estate @ Intake.

Nothing wrong with people who breed from housing estates if they do it properly though ;)

It's the cages that bother me... responsibly bred dogs, in my opinion, wouldn't be kept in cages.

what if they are kenneled outside during the day in provisions for them to be sold as working dogs?? dont want to make it out there not doing anything wrong but still some dogs do prefer to be outside

My Moo came to me in similar circumstances from a perfectly legit breeder. It wasn't a matter of being 'past her use', at 4 there was a few years left in her but they felt that having lived in an (albeit very well equiped and cosy) kennels she deserved a family home. She got plenty of love and a daily run in a field but its still not the same as being a family pet.

I don't claim to know the circumstances of this dog but I do feel that people are quick to jump on anyone who has bred their dog, often without knowing the facts.

They look more like front of runs to me, its difficult to say from that picture

well i feel right depressed after seeing just how many dogs are up for sale on that web site

I know there are loads of these sites about - people just swopping or selling or giving away

the 7 yr old gsd and the dane they don't have time for, who keeps rounding them all up. as if he isn't insecure enough - they now want to give him away so someone can 'give him a better home'
yeah right

i wish i hadn't looked now

sorry for being an absolute idiot but would it be wrong to purchase any dog off this website because they are all puppy farmed, or is it there are a few bad eggs?

geckoqueen
08-09-2007, 09:39
Mr H, I'm always reluctant to label sites (I'm sure there's bad eggs even on the KC site), you're much better talking to the seller and getting a good look at the dog(s) and where they are kept. If you go for a puppy, ask to see the parents.

I beleive someone posted a list of questions to ask a good breeder but can't find it (link, anyone?)

I have spoke to the owner of this lab and I do have my doubts from what I was told :suspect: So although I dont think we should judge but in this circumstance although I could be wrong I think we can be skeptical (sp?)

Indeed, if you're not happy with what's they've said thats fair enough. Will you be having a look around the place and reporting it if it is a puppy farm? My response to Mr H is more about giving individual cases this level of consideration, regardless of where the original avert was posted.

Provided they are not constantly using their own bitch n dog or their offspring.

Anothing thing people need to look out for with such sites as Pre Loved, Ad Trader etc when looking for a new dog, is the amount of scams that are going around at the moment.

Pugs, chihuahua, allt he cute ' in' dogs of the moment, are being advertised for say £200. The seller will ask for payment via bank transfer, might send you a photo of a dog and ask for your address to 'deliver' your dog to.

You'll never see your money or any dog.

I know to those in the know it sounds like no one would fall for something like this, but they must do, or else they wouldn't still be trying it on.

There was one advert for Boston Terriers I found interesting as it said the owner was in Sheffield, I got in touch, they had no other photo but the one on the advert, there email address was registered in France and they claimed to be in Scotland, wanted me to 'pick' which pup I wanted (from the pic, which only showed their behinds) and after payment they'd deliver it to me  they didn't answer any of my questions, and of course visiting was out of the question.

Theres great advice at the top of this group - make use of it :) don't lose your heart and your cash!

Hi everyone,

This labrador has now been re-homed.
Unfortunately neither me or Hunni had any input into this so all we hope is that he has gone to a loving family forever home :)
