Or when they are locked in the house, or do you leave it on? I always take ours off and she loves it but i know some people who leave it on 24/7. What do you do?

I take the greyhounds' collars off because when they move about in their sleep, their tags jangle and wake them up - and then they wake me up!

Lilly only has her collar on when she goes for a walk or if she is in our garden. The rest of the time her neck is naked :)

Ours only have a collar on when they go for walks or we are working them. because they have thick coats and are show dogs, the collar would ruin their fur if left on all the time

we leave the collars on our dogs all the time, they are slightly on the loose side anyway.
If I took them off, would forget to put them back on.

it's a dilemma about the cats collars. All our cats used to go naked ( no collars), but we tried them with Cat safe collars which are supposed to spring open if they get hooked on a branch. However the most timid cat wouldn't tolerate the collar, it really bothered him. The other 2 soon got used to the collars with bells on. Whilst they aren't big hunters, hopefully it give wildlife a better chance.

Molly wears her collar all the time and her harness when we go out in the day (so that she can wear her seat belt). It's a lovely thick soft collar made of neoprene so it's not going to irritate her skin or tangle her fur up.

My dogs wear their collars all the time too, i just worry about them escaping in some freak accident and racing off into the sunset and never seeing them again

I panic that my dogs will get caught in their collars if i leave them on when i am out the house. I have heard horror stories of dogs getting caught up etc. You can get house collars or tag collars with a elastic part in case they get caught as it would just come over their head. I also worry about them getting out with no collar on. Isn't it illegal for your dog to not have a collar and tag on.

Yeah outside it is but not in their home :)

Takara used to be naked all the time unless going for a walk - then she had a harness on

I recently bought a collar for her to keep on at all times - apart from night time. If she gets out of the house the gates should be shut anyway but from time to time my dad comes up to the house and puts his car on the drive, leaving the gates open. If they got out they'd be straight onto the road and could go anywhere (not that I think they'd go that far) so they wear collars with tags in the house now.

Eddy's collar is on 24/7 because it's a magnetic collar that eases his joints.

I'm suprised at the amount of people that take their dog's collars off!

My parents oldie Toby probably hasn't had his taken off in years so I didn't think it was something people normally did...

But I take Gadget's off every now & then, & he adores a good neck rub!
The only prob is, I wouldn't like to leave the collar off while I'm out at work, so if I've taken it off that night then I have to wake him up in the morning to put his collar on... which makes him think we are off out somewhere then I feel guilty leaving him! :(

I suppose I should just leave it off really (now that I know lots of other people do!) - after all he is microchipped, and he's the sort of dog who, when shut outside accidentally, would just sit on the front doorstep for hours until someone notices

The dog I used to live with (belonged to housemate) HATED having her collar off, sometimes i'd take it off to give her fur a break and to rub her neck, but she'd whine and search for her collar til it got put back on.. i think she felt insecure without it!!!

We leave Guinnesses collar on all the time, we only take it off when we bath him, he sulks soooo much when we take it off that we can't leave it off. Its only on loosely anyway (but not loose enough it would get caught on anything), we use a harness when we take him for a walk so his collar is just to show off his tag.
