Jesus was straight, else he would never have left the Holy Land and moved to Northern Europe with his wife and kid.

Do a Google search on the "merovingian heresy".

Not a globally accepted story, especially by the Roman Catholic Church...;)

Apparantly the regulators have had 1500 complaints so far :o
You have to laugh, although the feigned outrage of publications like The Sun and The Daily Mail winds me up no end. The Sun were making out on their front page yesterday that there is more than one swear word a second!

I was listening to the guy from the BBC talking about this on Radio 4 last night and he said the numbers of swear words in the play, banded around by the media are vastly exaggerated, roughly by a factor of 6.

He went on the say that there have been films on the BBC that have had more swearing.

The guy from Mediawatch complaining about it hadn't even seen the play. How can you be offended by something you haven't seen?

If you don't like it, don't watch it. There is plenty on TV that I can't abide, but then if I don't like something I won't watch it. Whats the problem?

I did the arithmetic on the number of swear words in this opera against the duration of the production and can't believe that the figures are correct. The media is winding things up again.

I'd rather watch something like this that seems to have a bit of life about it than some of the anodyne crap that passes for entertainment at the Beeb these days.

The figures are apparantly based on the number of people singing the words. So, is you have a chorus of 30 people singing a line that contains the C word, they counted that as 30 uses of the C word.

My partner is a big fan of Jerry Springer so we went to see the Opera in London last July. It was hysterically funny and brilliantly performed. I'm not a Springer fan myself but having seen a couple of shows, this "opera" catches the essence of the TV show perfectly. The "Jesus is gay" thing is a bit of a red herring, a throw-away remark in the second act and far from being central to the show. Obviously those of a pure mind and heart will find the blasphemy and swearing hard to take so should stick to CBeebies. Those of a stronger disposition are well advised to watch this when it's broadcast.

Perhaps Christians should adopt the same tactics used recently by Hindus in Birmingham ie intimidation and vandalism. After all, it worked for them. ;)

The Christian church near me always has loads of black people stood outside after a service, more than white I would say... so they probably could use that line I would suspect.

Actually, THEE Jerry Springer is from the UK. But yeah, it is the one with the talk show, and people here like it because it shows very stupid American's that they can laugh at.

The thread is actually discussing a show called 'Jerry Springer - The Opera', a highly successful and somewhat tongue-in-cheek stage show that premiered at the National Theatre a year or two back. There's a TV version due this weekend that's the subject of much tabloid huffing and puffing. (But yes, the reference is of course to THE Jerry Springer...)

She's escaped from her room again!

As usual I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't hate American's in the slightest, and jealousy is such an ugly emotion. I was simply answering your questions. That really is why people watch it. I was not implying that the entire population of the country with more Nobel prizes than the rest of the world put together, with some of the best and funniest writers, with cutting edge technology, were all stupid (although you're not doing the best PR job, are you?). Just the ones that appear on that show. Much as the same as the ones that appear on Trisha in this country.

I'm not a fan of the show personally, but I have heard great things about the musical, and I would like to see it.

Didn't sound that way to me, anyhow i understand from other forum members that Jerry Springer show is a bigger hit over there than in the states, so ENJOY IT.

I have to agree that the media are brewing up a storm over the Jerry Springer show, just like they do when there's talk of a ban on Christmas Carols because 'it offends other cultures'.

On the other hand, I find it quite refreshing to learn that it is now Christians who are literally standing up and being counted, making noises about the content of the show as opposed to Muslims, Jews, and Sikhs, the last section of whom managed to get a play cancelled because they found it offensive to God. (Freedom of speech, anyone?)

And you're right: if you don't like it, switch it off. What I find more offensive, nay, curious, is that people have some kind of obsession/fetish in wanting to watch what other people get up to in their shallow lives via the likes of Big Brother and ofcause, the desire to witness the vomit that is displayed for all to see on Jerry Springer, be it the TV 'show' or performed on stage and all in the name of Entertainment.

Thousands of people have complained to the BBC before it's even screened. That makes it a "must see" in my eyes :)
