Ok after living in Sheffield for about 7 years and having being in nearly 150 of its boozers (not that I'm some alchie or anything ;) ), was just wondering what peoples favourite pub crawls are?

Mine would probably be in this order:

1. Start up Crookes, then Broomhill, then town if you make it that far:
The Ball > Noahs Ark > Old Grindstone > Fox & Duck > Broomhill Tavern > The Place > Springfield Tavern > West End > Other-random-West-Bank-boozer-such-as-Aunt-Sallys > Bath Hotel

2. The Kelham Run:
Cask & Cutler > Kelham Island Tavern > Fat Cat > Gardeners Rest

3. Town:
Bath Hotel > Dev Cat > Washington > Swim Inn? > Red Deer > Red House (on Solly Street)

4: Eccy Road:
Devonshire Arms > Classic Rock Bar > Nursury Tavern > Porter Brook > Porter Cottage > Lescar

Anyone else?

Rich

You hit it right on the head with number 1 mate

Although, I used to start in Ranmoor

Rising Sun - Bulls Head - Ranmoor Inn (into Broomhill) Nottingham House - South Sea - The Place and then finished off in Broomhill Tavern :D

In and around Chapeltown, excluding clubs.

Commercial, Coach & Horses, Royal oak, Scandals, Escape, Prince of wales, Wharncliffe, Crown & Cushion, Acorn, Bridge inn
Pheonix, (then through the park) Market inn, Queens head, Cart & Horses, Pack horse, Crossfield Tavern, Finish at The Barrel.

Best off doing an all dayer for that.

Clubs you miss out (optional) are: British legion, Chapeltown w.m.c. Ranch, High green w.m.c. and Thorncliffe pavilion.

This was annual pub crawl in 2004

Old Queens Head
Ye Old Harrow
Riverside
three tuns
dog and partridge
frog and parrot
(Curry house on west street)
cricketers

was dissapointed with (morrisey's) riverside as it has turned from an interesting old pub with a live gig room upstairs, into a bland restraunt bar

Went on a good crawl last week up Crookes and Walkley, managed 11 boozers:

The Ball -> Noah's Ark -> Grindstone -> Cobden View -> Closed Shop -> Hallamshire House -> Springvale -> Royal Hotel -> Freedom House -> Walkley Cottage -> Heavygate

Quality :)

I hope you didn't "wus out" and have only a half or a small bottle[eg budweiser] in any of these. As a pub crawl only counts if a full pint is taken in every establishment.

My record was 14 pints in 2002,
I could only manage 10 in 2004

lol

Yes a pint in each, an extra gin and tonic somewhere along the line and two or three more in the Heavygate!

Excellent Meaks,

Apology for casting aspersions about your supping qualifications. You are just the kind of propper drinker that we need in this fine city of ours. No more of those Budwieser drinkers, or william hague chattering class I once drunk 15 pints, when I was a northerner types..

Most of my mates have a Sweeny Liver, being able to drink like "The Guv" Jack Reagan.

All Real Ale as well of course, except for the Royal Hotel who'd run out.

Probably be going round town tonight for some proper boozing - Devonshire Cat, Washington, Bath Hotel, Red Deer, Red House....

Nothing like a dirty low boozer

Nice little pub that.

If you work in Attercliffe/Carbrook there's always:

Enfield > Wentworth > Cocked Hat > Carlton

You could also go in Brewsters or the Noose and Gibbett if you really wanted :suspect:

My record is 18 pints in 1989, around the same time I had a few 14 and 15 pint days. Couldn't do that now (I'm relieved to admit).

I can still do ten though. Stella. (I love Stella - it just hates me!)

Some good pub crawls here. Glad to see interest in real boozers (ie, Bath Hotel) and not the fake type places. But I got to be honest - I go to York quite often and for one reason: to do the pubs. Talk about fall out of one into another. And they're all ace! And I've been doing so since 1988!!!!

Been registered on here for ages but never bothered to post but as it's friday & work is really boring I thought I'd share this pub crawl idea...
ever heard of an alphabet run? the basic idea being you go to 26 pubs each beginning with a different letter.

Here are 3 of them what I've done in last 2 years: (Now OK, there's a few exceptions - have to repeat a few letters - & if ever you tried doing it in abc order, the logistics would be enough to make you mad, never mind the ale!!)

abc1: George IV, Nags Head, Under the Boardwalk, Banker's Draft, Aunt Sallys, Harley Hotel, Swimm Inn, O'Neills, Cavendish, Varsity, Red Deer, Walkabout, Edwards, Lloyds, JD Wetherspoons, Matrix, Yates, Dickins, Ice Bar, Flares, 80s, Kornerhouse, The Old Monk, Penny Blacks, Queens Head, Roundhouse

abc2: George IV, Harley Hotel, Nursery Tavern, Champs, Varsity, Pomona, Matrix, Empire, Kornerhouse, JD Wetherspoons, Banker's Draft, Art Room, Cubana, Dog & Partridge, Walkabout, Rat & Parrott, Saddle, Flares, Ice Bar, Dickins, Yates, Lloyds, 80s, Old Monk, Brown Bear, Queens Head, Penny Blacks, Roundhouse

abc3: Deep End, Queens Ground, george IV, nursery, Champs, varsity, pomona, matrix, empire, kornerhouse, jd wetherspoons, lloyds, old monk, harley, Swimm Inn, Cavendish, Revolution, varsity, BRB, tequila bar, 80s, walkabout, yates, ice bar, flares, reflex

in terms of drinking, for the first 2 runs we mainly had halves in all of the pubs so that's 13 pints on the 1st & 14 in the 2nd (for some unknown reason we ended up doing 28 pubs). the last one we did recently to relive a few memories we were on bottles & pints all day...

For my birthday a couple of years back I suggested taking it further & having a drink beginning with the SAME letter of the pub (i.e. gin and tonic - George IV, vodka & coke - Varsity, etc) but we thought best against it...very wise!

Anyway, I'm sure with some of the posters' knowledge of ale-houses you could come up with a few other routes within Sheffield...

The SUFC pub crawl.

The Railway - The Cricketers - The Sportsman - Off to the match then afterwards:

The Pomona - Varsity - Nursery - Champs then off to Naps for a late drink.

Shame Bar 101 shut down - there again the landlord was a bit of a muppet.

:hihi:

Last pub crawl I did took in the Malin, Anvil, Rose and Crown and the Crown and Glove, all situated between Hillsborough and Stannington.

Crown and Glove on a Monday or Wednesday night is tops cos they have quiz night on those nights, I've won a few times, woot! Go me! :D

The whole Crookes/Crookesmoor thing is pretty quality. My record was 13 in 3 hours. It was a test of strength, speed and stamina. We had to run at times (and get a taxi backup to Crookes). It was buyers choice in each one, which meant lots of horrid stuff like Sambuca, Pernod, Goldschlager and Ouzo to name a few. Fair to say I was shouting on the big white phone that night.

The run was:

Ball -> Spinrocs (restuarant, but does San Miguel) -> Masons Arms -> Hallamshire Hotel -> Grindstone -> Noah's Ark -> Cobden View -> Closed Shop -> Hallamshire -> Springvale -> Hadfield Arms -> Punchbowl (where we met Elvis) -> Jazz (again a restuarant, but does stupid German stuff).

Result.

We went on the Crookes pub crawl yesterday. Started at the Ball, and worked our way down through Broomhill having a pint in every pub on the way. Ended up at Star and Garter where Mrs Patchy more or less took over the karaoke. Apparently I had an attempt at singing on it, but I have no memory of it!

Back in my youth THE pub crawl was to start in the Crown at Heeley Bottom, then the Lions (Red and White), Bridge, Royal and every boozer on way down London Road, including slight detours off to include likes of Sheldon etc., finishing off in Tiffany's.

That will probably be our next crawl... that's if I ever recover from last night!

the best pub crawl has to be the Westgate run in Wakefield.
About 20 pubs all within 3/4 mile.
