Hi
How teritorial are phone numbers in Sheffield?
If I move from one area to another can I keep my number or is it likely to have to be changed cos of exchanges or summat?
Cheers

Not territorial at all.
You will be able to keep your number if you stay within the bounds of sheffield.
The days of local exchanges having their own numbers was 30 years ago
Not quite right - it's still done on an exchange basis from what I was told by BT. When I moved from Broomhill to Hillsborough I was told I couldn't take my number with me.

Ditto. When we moved from Hillsborough to Sharrow, we were told the same thing. Had to have a new number.
I work in telecoms and yes it is done from the exchange so even if you move a few yards away you many not be able to take your number as you may be have to switch exchanges only way of finding out is by ringing your telephone company each company may be different in that respect.
Plus, if you move to this exchange (S6 and environs), it's still analog. I had to change my number moving from Crookes to Walkley but not from Walkley to Stannington.
My Woodhouse phone has a Stocksbridge dialling code

Even if you move from BT to telewest or some other company you can often take your number. if your current supplier won't let you, try a different one!
