I didn't get a Star tonight, as both shops I went in had sold out, but I saw over someones shoulder on the bus the headline 'club praised by Tony Blair to close'. Is it talking about Purple?

Incidentally if you do a news archive search for 'purple club' on sheffieldtoday.net the top 3 headlines returned are:

1) Paedophile's assaults on 2,000 girls
2) Sex slaves trafficker is jailed for 18 years
3) Chav yourself a merry little Christmas

Seems somehow appropriate. Well it amused me anyway.

As much as I have wanted this to happen since it was Berlins I just feel that it will disperse the trouble makers to another bar/pub maybe even to a nightclub.

It was only when he pulled out a copy of the latest "The Streets" cd they changed there mind and let him in.

yea purple bar has closed because the can no longer afford the rent due to the hiring of extra staff to tackle the increased violence and strict new door policies lol (yea this probably means the rejection of 13 year olds trying to get in) so due to this they lost the majority of there clientel in effect losing profits leading to the going broke

the uropa got closed because someone got stabbed there at a rude boy night- they were trying to reopen it the last i heard but nothing as yet!!!

strangly enough any memories from that place are a little bluury ;) altho i do remember taking sooty and sweep puppets in and keeping about 20 cybers entertained for hours one week :D :D

What the Sheffield Telegraph suggested was the owners of the building that Purple lease the premises off had gone bust and as a result the costs of running the bar had shot up, so they decided to pull the plug before they started to lose any money.

Three cheers if it is, more to the point why was it praised by Tony Blair?! I'd love to hear that one

only ever been in purple once, and that wasn't through choice. Was dragged there by a chav mate (Not a chav myself though!). What a site. 14 year old girls flashing more flesh than Jordan doing a page 3 shoot. Never again!

Tony Blair and David Blunkett praised purple because it was one of the first bars around to have a biometric scanning system in place.

Purple was praised because of the work done on improved door security to keep out weapons, trouble makers and underage drinkers.

(Did they have any customers left after that...?)
