Hi all
i switched off my pc a few nights ago and now when i switch on the monitor does not come on the monitor is not broken as it works on my kids tower
anyone know why this is and what i am to do
with great thanks:thumbsup:
Does the rest of your PC power on? I mean do you hear the fans start, and the hard drive?? when you turn it on and wait 5-10 seconds, can you open the CD/DVD Drives???
if yes, to all of the above, it sounds as though your GFX Card could be dead...

make sure the contrast and brightness havent been fiddled with
youd be surprised how many people get fooled by that

Does the hard drive light flash?
You only need to have power to be able to eject the DVD.
Has the unit got onboard graphics and a graphics card? (2 ports, one of which is de-activated)
If so, is the monitor plugged into the onboard graphics? If it is, move it to the graphics card port. Try both if you have both.
It would be helpful to know if the machine is passing POST (Power on self test). One way to know is ...does the hard drive flash? Any beeps? Did it ever beep?
If the unit has onboard graphics AND a graphics card, take out the graphics card and plug the monitor into the onboard graphics. The display should revert to the onboard graphics automatically.
If you get a display from the onboard graphics after taking out the graphics card, then switch off and re-fit the graphics card, see if anything has changed.
Let us know how u get on.

Try the other way round (ie use the kids monitor on your base and see if you get a display).

This sounds like the PC is as we say in the trade, 'not POSTing'
This is usually a fault with either the cpu, motherboard, graphics adaptor or RAM. Sometimes it is a total failure of a component, sometimes one has come a bit loose. If you feel brave (and have a good idea wht I'm talking about), pop the side off your case and check that the graphics card and ram are well secured.
If not bring it into us at Very PC (in Hillsborough) and we'll have a look.
