A rare sight indeed, is there by slim chance a red telephone box still standing anywhere in Sheffield? Or indeed nearby?
Surely BT missed one!

View Full Version : Red telephone boxes John 25-08-2003, 00:49 A rare sight indeed, is there by slim chance a red telephone box still standing anywhere in Sheffield? Or indeed nearby? Surely BT missed one! The hunt is on... Funke88 25-08-2003, 04:05 Out of curiosity I went on a Dogpile search of red phone boxes and came up with www.englishphoneboxes.com Apparantly, BT are refurbishing them and selling them off to foreigners. A Dutch guy has a red phone box at his home in Holland. The web site even has a gallery of photos. Ha, its hillarious. Foreigners will buy anything British? PaulTansley 25-08-2003, 08:59 I cycle through a village called Dungworth near Dam flask and there is still a red phone box there. Tom in Bradway 25-08-2003, 17:19 There's still a red box on Meadowhead, outside the Yorkshire Windows shop. Quite surprising, since every other one in the area was replaced years ago. BAZZO 25-08-2003, 21:05 Also one outside The Snake Inn on the A57 Sheffield-Manchester road. PaulTansley 26-08-2003, 05:39 Yeah, passed there on Sunday on mi bike, can't remember seeing that phone box though, there again maybe i was'nt looking. Just noticed theres also one outside The Bow pub at the bottom of West street. MuteWitness 26-08-2003, 16:47 is there not one near the town hall? near where the police hut is ? Abdul 26-08-2003, 17:12 There's one in the Firth Park / Wincobank / Shiregreen area, at the junction of Windmill Lane and (what I think is) Wharncliffe Road. Err...it's Bevercotes Road. The Wharncliffe is the pub  DaBouncer 26-08-2003, 17:39 Isn't there one almost at the bottom of west street opposite steel city house? MuteWitness 26-08-2003, 22:32 also on the corner of hutcliffe wood road and abbey lane jayjay03 26-08-2003, 22:41 Yeah, there is a REALLY old one on Gosforth Lane/Netherdene Road in Dronfield. Still untouched and still working I believe. You can't miss it, left hand side going up the hill before the conifer bushes. I should read EVERY post before I post! upholder 29-08-2003, 17:56 Just past one this afternoon at the junction of Brickhouse lane and Hathersage Road. TommyFlockton 30-08-2003, 01:46 There's one in Brampton which is near the M1/M18 junction just to the east of sheffield - it's a listed building I believe! See http://www.j31.co.uk/brampst.htm for a photo. Classic Rock 01-09-2003, 09:52 Spotted one in Eckington outside a pub on a corner. Sorry that's a bit vague.....near Marsh Lane boot sale. pontious 01-09-2003, 09:58 We've got 2 at Oughtibridge, both on Church St!! Incomer 02-09-2003, 13:57 As a related point, when BT were first removing red telephone boxes (in the late eighties I think), the London Borough of Hackney listed all their red telephone boxes to prevent them being removed. Hackney is now the only place in London which still has lots of red phone boxes. Belle 02-09-2003, 14:22 That would be apart from Sheffield where we just have spotted about 20, right? |
