Its got big silver shutters on it's doors and windows.

I Heard this as well, but never mind it was a bit rough.

I went in there to meet some mates once had a bit of a look round & one the friendly locals advised' if you are looking for those ****ing students there in the beer garden'

The good news is that this pub is reopening on Wednesday 3rd November thanks to James Birkett of New Barrack Tavern and Sheaf View fame!

The pub is reopening as a real ale pub , And yea James has a great track record.

If anyone can find out what time it will be opening I'll be on the doorstep!! :thumbsup:

He has indeed, he also had to fight against a scandalous restrictive covenant placed on The Blake by the last owners which meant it could never be reopened as a pub.

Now if we can just do the same for the other boarded up pubs all over Sheff. There is still a market for decent pubs with good beer.

This is excellent news! Though I can't make it down there for a couple of weeks.

Used to live on Blake Street and (fool that I was) run up it occasionally "for fun". My best time was 53 seconds. I'm nowhere near that fit now...

May see some forumers in there over the coming months.

They stopped for a long while, then some friends of mine added it to the Ruskin Park Fun Day, but they're no longer involved in that and - as far as I know - it hasn't happened for the past few years.

Shame, really.

I seem to recall they once filmed a Guinness advert at the Blake. I believe it was back in the late 70's. The funny thing was I don't think they served draught Guinness in the pub at that time.

and of course it was in shot for about 10 secs in The Full Monty (the park scene). I loved The Blake...

I've now been told that the pub is not reopening until the 10th November.

So, anyone know what kind of brews we should expect The Blake to be serving? Are we to expect a Sheaf View-type range? If so, I'll definitely give it a go, given the pubs around Crookes seem to be declining in standard - Cobden View seems to be losing it (or is that just me?) - or turning into bistros/karaoke bars!

I can confirm that the Blake is now open, and the beer is anecdotally very good. I plan to check it out very soon!

Fantastic pub, went there tonight. Great beers and great prices.

It is open and it is fantastic!!! - as a local resident I really appreciate how lovely it is to have this re-open [so nice not to have nasty derelict building on the corner !] cannot stress strongly enough how great the beers are - NO UNDER 18's tho' - so don't try and bring the family! grown ups only!

Left the car at the Walkley Cottage, a drink there, then one at the Top Freedom, then a stroll down to The Blake.
The Blake had a lovely buzz to it, great beers (tonight i have been mostly drinking Farmers Blonde) and good selection of malts too.
Will definately make a return visit.

i have now been there three times. each time with the dog. each time lovely. plus the owner was very generous with his distribution of dog treats last night, mine says thanks! :)

ah fruli, a favourite of mine though I cant believe how much a pint of it is!

The Blake is a lovely pub with a lovely garden and I cant wait to spend more time there this summer
