View Full Version : Anyone nervous about their child starting school/ preschool next week?
Ok - My eldest (4) is starting school next week (eek), and my youngest is starting pre-school at the same time! I'm not so much worried about my 4 year old making friends/ being nervous etc, but am fretting terribly about whether he'll wipe his bum properly :gag:/ be able to open his sandwiches and yoghurt OK/ remember to go for a wee etc. I have done my best to ensure he's prepared, but am still dreading it! He's also a very lively clown of a boy, and am worried he'll clown around in an OTT manner in order to impress the other boys.
My youngest has a language impairment so am flapping about how he'll get on at preschool, and also I haven't been able to potty train him successfully yet, so he'll be one of the few in pull ups. Rationally I know that the staff are excellent, and none of this will matter to them, but my in-built mum-o-worry-meter in peaking!
Suppose I should really be looking forward to a bit of free time for the first time in 4 1/2 years...Yes, I am...freedom, shopping and some peace and quiet will be lovely. But still...
fox20thc 31-08-2007, 14:30 Cal your eldest will have a blast. As far as the practical stuff don't worry, lots of helpers are available - my youngest was rubbish with the opening of a yoghurt pot and always needed help.
Your youngest, well he'll be fine too, he is with professional carers who know what needs to be done especially if he has a speech issue, they will help him with that.
Enjoy the rest!! You earned it.
Same anxiety here, my Daughter starts school on Tuesday which is also her 5th birthday :( , halfday Tue and then straight into fulldays !! she has only done mornings or afternoons at preschool,
My youngest also start Nursery after xmas so i will have all the anxiety again then. not so much with her starting nursery as she has done 1 morning a week since just being 2, i will be lonley never thought id say it, i had always thought id be fine, but now its getting near its quite scary.
I also live in S6 btw, maybe they are at the same school.
Well, it doesn't get any better as they get older! My DS is starting secondary next Tuesday and I'm dreading it! Luckily he is looking forward to it - he is good mixer and I've never had any trouble with him, but I'm still worried about things like him losing his bus fare or leaving his bag on the bus or something!
honeyb35 31-08-2007, 21:55 awww good luck! I cant wait for my 6 year old to go back to school! gawd that makes me sound like a bad mum lol! My son goes back to nursery and he's going to start going 5 afternoons a week, he was only doing 2 before july! I'm going to find that hard lol
My youngest starts pre-school on Tuesday.
He`ll be doing 2, half days to start with.
It`ll mean I`ve got no children at home, that will be weird. I won`t know what to do with myself.
My little un is also a late learner on the toilet, but am having a master class on it this weekend.
Mine are at Malin Bridge Primary & Pre-school...
I`m at the other end of Sheffield, mine will be going to mount view pre-school.
cal3549 - My daughter is going to Marlcliffe, but a few of her friends from nursery (little Imps) are going the Malin Bridge.
