I saw my sister over Christmas and we got talking about the old C64 and how when we were kids, we'd eat too much sugar and go mental watching the flashing colours as a game loaded :D so does anyone want to reminisce with me?

My top 3 games:

Jet Set Willy
The Captive
Knightmare (the old version, not the TV version)

Others

Booty
Beach Head
Freak Factory
Forbidden Forest

Come on you oldies!

The dragon was made by Dragon but had the some compatibility with the Tandy apparently. Time bandit and Legit seem to be the only games I remember. :)

oh man!! I remember.. before the days of memory cards and gamesaves.. me and my sister would spend HOURS doing the dizzy games.. after 5 hours just to land on a spike or something and ..game over - no continue, no retry..

Magicland Dizzy was my favourite :)

the best game by far was kickstart. absolutely brilliant. hours spent with a crippled hand after holding the joystick to tightly!

does anyone remember a game, that involved looking after a man in a house, you had to feed him and keep him entertained etc ??

the early version of Sims!

Yo! The Sim game was Little Computer People.. definately very cool.. and Kickstart.. I never played the first one but you got a construction kit with Kickstart 2 so you could make your own levels! how novel.

I used to really love Pajamarama, but it would take ages for the game to load up on the tape, and always crash. I'm sure the point was to not wake up some bloke...

Was also a big fan of Summer Games... Used to knacker your hand up trying to do the sprint on the joystick! Although the diving was my favourite!

Robocop 3 was my favourite C64 game, you could fly and shoot enemies on the roof.

Blue Max was my favourite, followed by Raid over Moscow and Spy Hunter.

The C64 had tremendous sound. I recall loading US Gold games with the US national anthem playing. Suicide Express, Glider Rider and a Monty Mole game (can't remember which) had some teriffic sound.

If anyone has Winamp, you can download and install a small plug-in and download and listen to thousands of great C64 SID tunes!

Wow Spy Hunter! I used to play that at the arcade but never on C64, there was an old machine at Disney in florida and it was free I spent more time on that than the rides:loopy:

Preferred Kickstart 2 myself where you could make your own courses.

God yeah. We were too poor to get one (we still had the old old c64, brown, rounded edges) but I remember we had the gun for the NES and I used to sit and try to plug it in to the c64, convinced there was a way.. somehow.. awww

Did you ever have many cartridge games.. I remember The Terminator we had on cart..

Yes but let me know if you can find one that works properly with Windows XP.

Yes, Ikari Warriors was fab.

China miner

Codemasters are giving away `BMX Simulator` with a C 64 emulator as a free download, to celebrate their on going success.

That is really jerky and crappy on XP also.

Shame :(

Best speccy games were:

Exolon (great side scrolling shoot-me-do)
Dizzy series
Seymour goes to Hollywood + Wild West Seymour
Robocop

I remember in those days as well that the Spectrum vs C64 debate was almost a pre-cursor to the Xbox Vs PS2 debates of nowadays as the zealots of both machines would bleat till the day they died that their machine was best, only difference was that in those days circa the 80s there wasn't any internet forums to start flame wars on the subject like numpties tend to do nowadays.

I can't believe no-one has mentioned 'Pitstop II' or 'Mario Bros' (Atari version).

The two websites to visit are Lemon (http://www.lemon64.com/index2.php) and C64.com (http://www.c64.com) these are a wealth of knowledge about our favourite 'retro' machine

That was actually more impressive on the ZX Spectum. It used patented Softsolid modelling.

Impressive games but too many keys to press.

Pitstop II was a great 2 player game. You could burn the other players tyres out and force him out of the race.

I think the C64 emulator VICE works well under XP.

Since we're hijacking this thread for the Spectrum, go here:

and click on number nine. And PLEASE vote for it if you can!
