appears to be closed both ways. Does anyone know why and for how long? There doesn't appear to be any diversion either, so traffic coming up from Upperthorpe is just splitting at the crossroads and going all over the place.

Tried to get down there this morning. They're probably doing another cheapo makedo fillinallthepotholesagain job.

And if it wants doing, why, there's no better time than rush hour is there? That'll upset the motorist again won't it? (Er, no, I went down School Road and got stuck behind a bin lorry instead).

I've just walked down Crookesmoor Road and it's closed till 4pm.

It looks like they're cleaning the gutters: The place has never looked so clean! But the question that must be answered is:-

WHY are they cleaning the gutters? I reckon it's so they can put down more double-yellow lines (and only by informing residents to remove their cars to clean the gutters can they be so cunning to plaster the street in yellow paint!).

I might have a walk to Ladbrokes. Whadya think?

Hmmm... cunning. Worth a flutter, if you're that way
inclined.

Just been down Crookesmoor Rd (now open from Crookes Rd to Conduit Rd).

Repairs to the pavement and road, road sweepers and gulley machines at work...

...but no new yellow lines anywhere.

The rain swept all sorts of crap down the hills and left sludge along sides of the roads.

It is particularly bad in some parts.

the drains can't cope with the amount of water when we have a heavy bit of rain. the water forces the drain covers off as there is a bottleneck.

on the subject of crookesmoor road has anyone noticed how many vandalised wing mirrors and aerials there are?

cheers to who ever broke my wingmirror! very clever!

I think you'll find that it's most likely cause by people
in large vehicles (BMW and Land Rover drivers, I'm looking
at you) trying to squeeze two abreast between double parked
cars.
A couple of months ago I was driving up there and the
driver of a silver BMW (who had flashed by through)
suddenly pulled out and left me about half a cars width to
get through. I had to swerve and hit someone's wing mirror,
but I checked and it wasn't broken. Mine was bent a bit,
but no damage. Still, shouldn't have had to. Contrary to
(apparently) popular belief, simply pulling out in front of
someone doesn't make the road magically wide enough to fit
your car.

You CAN fit two cars down Crookesmoor Rd in most places, even when the cars are double parked. Some people are a little too cautious, but then again I trust my spatial awareness.

It was v annoying that it was closed tho this morning... No warning or anything, and the traffic on Crookes Rd was backed up quite far. So, I just thought "Beggar it, I'm going down there", like quite a few other people did because they were just putting up the road block signs.:o

my kerb side wing mirror was ripped of in october, my rear wiper arm was bent and twisted in november - on both occasions i was just setting off to work (7:30 ish) and i noticed that every car in either direction had some deliberate damage - aerials twisted, mirrors broken etc - i have since moved thank heavens as it was getting expensive

in short there is a lot of deliberate damage to cars on crookesmoor road however if i parked on spring hill road (behind my house) then hardly any vehicles get damaged as this road is perpendicular to the major routes home from the clubs.

Crooksmoor road is notoriuos for vandalism and theft. Because of the high level of student residents, being a main walkthrough and lots of escape routes.

Yes, you can. I quite often run up the side of on coming traffic in my tiny little car (mk2 polo, about 3ft wide if it's an inch ;) ). However, that doesn't work when one of the cars is a large saloon and is diagonal.

So you didn't notice those f*** off big yellow signs on each lamp column that said "road closed 5 / 1 / 2005" then.

I'am going to look at a flat on Crookesmoor Road near the Springvale Pub.
Any ideas on how to get their from Meadowhall?
Please use buildings as landmarks if possible as I'm really rubbish at directions!!!

Yellow Tram from Meadowhall to Cathedral. 95 bus from Cathedral to Commonside bus stop. Croos the road and you'll be outside of the Springvale.

.... but you'd be better off getting off the stop before (outside the Hadfield pub) if you want to be close to Crookemoor Road.

For Crookesmoor Road you're better getting off opposite the Hadfield pub at the bottom of Barber Road, just through the traffic lights after the sharp rise after you've crossed Crookes Valley (dam & park on your left).

Walk back down to the lights. Crookesmoor Road is the road that the one that crosses the bottom of Barber Road - although could be either way depending on the house number.

If you're driving it depends on time of day - but aim towards the University - the big black Arts Tower is probably the tallest building in Sheffield.

You'll come to Brrok Hill Roundabout - you want the Walkley Road which means you pass the bottom of the Arts Tower on your left.

Continue up hill, first set off traffic lights you come to are the ones I've mentioned in second paragraph.

Actually, they were just putting them up as I approached the junction with Crookes Rd, so by then it was too late, unless I wanted to go the really long way, and get stuck in mountains more traffic through Broomhill...

Crookesmoor Road is getting a residents parking scheme. Perhaps that's what it's all about?

Well its about time, its murder on that road at peak times especially when you get two stubborn drivers in each direction. I have seen many altercations and acts of stoopid driving on this road. it seems to be worse on the bottom end of crookesmoor road near the community centre
