Here's the kind of hot potato that the Sheff Forum enjoys.

Just heard on BBC radio news that a number voluntary warden walkers in the Lake Distict have been laid off.

Now even though they do it for nothing, money is still spent on equipment, advertising and whatever else that is in this particular annual budget.

They are stopping it, to spend the money on enticing ethnic minority's to the Lake Distict.

Now I usually sit on the fence here and observe both side's
but this as to be overly Pc, does'nt it?

I've been going to the Lakes since my late teens and now lucky enough to have a place there and I can tell you those walks are much loved.
It's what the Lakes was designed for, right!

Just why do they want to attract people who have no intrest in the fells and lakes anyhow, you can't force people into likeing a certain kind of holiday.

How are they going to do it, stop the annual Grasmere games and have a Notting Hill Carnival type thingy.

I have read over this post and it does seem a bit dodgy, but what the hell it does seem a bit silly to me.

Nothing suprises me when it comes to the P C lot, still gives my lot more ammunition so its allright .
But seriously this is another example of those in power not having a clue what the real world is all about,I woul'd not be suprised if thet get lottery money for stupid idea after all its politically correct isn't it?

Decision has been postponed.

Were you aware that Sheffield Council Rangers are paid to guide fitness walks?
Perhaps we should check whether these are excessively "middle-class" as well.

Cheers for that link.

Did'nt know some of the other detail's and found this quote:

"The authority said it would use funds to attract more young people, disabled people or ethnic minorities to the region".

They failed to mention the disabled bit on the radio.
Now obviously spending money on special walkway's ect....for the disabled who want to enjoy the lakes is great.

For anyone interested Grizdale forest in the Lakes, serves the disabled Brilliantly.

YES I AGREE THAT HELPING THE DISABLED TO ACCESS THE COUNTRY IS A GREAT IDEA,THIS IS MORE LIKE IT.
I DONT THINK ENOUGH IS DONE TO HELP THOSE WITH DISABILTIES IN THIS COUNTRY,AND EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS,
