Hi
I am a new owner of a finepix s5700 and wondered what sort of memory card would be best for it?
I currently have a 1GB SD card (came as part of the bundle with the camera). HOwever a friend suggested i get a xd card.
Whats the difference? and would it make a great difference to a 'snapshot' taker?
Thanks in advance

Reliability is the main concern for you I would think. Pay the little bit extra to get a decent brand rather than cheapest you can find to reduce chances of card failure (and loss of pics).
Some cards can transfer data faster, but for the majority of people taking snapshots this really wont have an impact.
The main difference is that an SD card is a difference size to an xD card. And which ever you use, it will make no difference whatsoever to your photography. It's not like using a different brand of film, where you will get different results. Both forms do the job fine.
I sort of echo dafoot's advice, but have had several Lexar [expensive] carsd fail on me. I use Sandisk now.
... I use Sandisk now.
Ditto that.
i use whatever i can get for under a tenner.

I've got this camera, and as you will see from the questions I ask i am still learning,
I've tried both cards in mine and the photos are the same
must say I've had some really good pictures just in auto mode.
Just to add there are some real experts on here always willing to help, and share their knowledge.
thanks to everyone for all thier help - i am off to get myself 2x 1gb xD cards - should be enough space for a few pics from my holidays :D
More cards to lose, especially as they are so small! But less to lose per card.

ps - The Jessops own brand SD card is a scandisk card. I asked in the shop who they were made by and the shop assistant didn't know - the back is hidden by the packaging but as soon as you get it out there is a jessops sticker on one side and the scandisk logo on the other. I bought 2 !gb cards and got the second half price.

Focusing speeds were good, but not best-in-class. Typically it took between 0.3 - 0.5 seconds for the camera to lock focus at wide-angle, with slightly longer waits at the telephoto end of the lens. Low light focusing was accurate, but quite slow, with focus times easily exceeded one second.
I did not find shutter lag to be a problem, even at the slower shutter speeds at which it can occur.
Shot-to-shot speeds were sluggish. With a Type M xD card, there was almost a three second delay before I could take another photo. Using a Type H (high speed) xD card, that delay dropped to around two seconds. These times did not change when the flash was used.
There's no way to delete a photo immediately after taking it -- you must enter playback mode to do so
nice camera thinking of getting one now ive read about it great for the price they say
