I currently have both my gas and electric on pre-pay token meters from British Gas.

I put on average £25/£30 a month in electric and £50/£60 in gas.

They were in the house when I moved in (10 years ago) and never got round to having them changed. I don't owe any money sp see little point in keeping them. I know you pay more for pre-payment meters but don't know where to start looking for the best deal.

Can anyone suggest a good supplier/suppliers?

Also, if people don't mind me asking, what is the average you pay per month/quarter for your bills?

We are in a three bed mid terrace house with double glazing etc.

Thank you.

Try looking at uswitch (http://www.uswitch.com/?ref=gotoast~goog~uswitch&source=goog&keyword=uswitch)

I have just paid my quarterly gas and elec today.
Gas £114
Elec £59

My monthly average over last year has been
Gas £43
Elec £17

My house is a medium sized terrace with 3 large bedrooms and no double glazing.

I live in a semi detached three bedroom house. Has central heating but not double glazed. I have two kids so you can imagine how much gas and electric we use! I had token meters in when I moved in and they costed me a FORTUNE!!! British Gas changed them free of charge, since then I have changed to Sainsburys energy who are by far the cheapest around. I pay £35 a month for BOTH gas and electric. And I don't mean each, I mean combined (£17.50 for each). It's a brilliant deal I couldn't get one better.

I'm going to be switching from npower too - they had yet another increase in their prices a few months ago (maybe this was a reason for hiking up your monthly DD matsellah). Powergen looks possible (although I've not looked at uswitch this year yet) but I'll take a look at Sainsbury's too after Chez's post.

I just took a look at Sainsburys energy but it seems I can't change to them as I still have pre-payment meters in. Looks like I have to get British Gas to change them to normal meters first.

Thanks for the help!

A bloke in Sainsbury's asked me if I'd like to sign up, and I told him I had an online account with Scottish Power and he said he couldn't better it with Sainsbury's

Sainsburys power is provided by Scottish Power. It says so on their website anyway!

we were with npower and british gas until i went to the uswitch site a few months ago i filled in all the online forms and am now £20 a month better off after going for an all in one online account with powergen, i just mail em the meter reading every now and again and apparently someone will still read the meters every once in a while to double check all is well.

We switched from nPower to Powergen after nPower raised their prices. Have gone from monthly DD payments of £22 electric and £26 gas to £36 for both. That's for a 2 bed flat with double glazing. It's an "on-line" account so we just have to e-mail them the readings every so often and they e-mail the accounts back.

Ofgem used to (I presume they still do) publish monthly updated no-bull comparisons on their website. I think it's www.ofgem.org.uk, if not just Google them.

You'll not get a significant saving with any of them if you're on a token meter, try and get them ripped out asap. The last time I looked, Scottish Power were the cheapest overall reliable provider.
