could be united fans and the new away kit :hihi:
on a side note my dad bought an ex-undercover cop car from police auctions was some Peugeot car painted bright fireman red. He had to sell it in the end as everytime it was parked up it would get damaged, i think more than likley by villans it has chased or arrested.
Dont the police have to have cars of a certain age like taxis.
Swan_Vesta 27-08-2007, 21:36 I've seen a red subaru driven by someone who looked asian :hihi:

Haha
he wasnt given an "on the spot, cash fine", was he..???
me thinks your friend needs to report this to the real police..!!
Agent Orange 28-08-2007, 08:29 The Police wouldn't drive such old vehicles when they are given the modern equivalent. Think someone has been winding up your friend or robbing him.
Dont the police have to have cars of a certain age like taxis.
no....but marked vehicles tend to be changed between 3 to 5 years (depending on the state of budgets) due to the amount of hammer they get (used 24/7) but unmarked / specialist use are a different story for obvious reasons.
EQUALIZER 28-08-2007, 09:02 If the police are using a black mk1 golf gti then all i can say is HOW COOL!!!!
BlackVelvet 28-08-2007, 09:11 Ive seen police some time back in an elderly and pretty bog-standard looking peugeot 205 around town.
badboyracer 28-08-2007, 10:41 point of under cover is to mean under cover!!!n this guy inn mk1 is actulli a cop, tp out catch newer cars speedin, cos would u unexpect a old car to pull u??
I don't know whether this mk 1 golf is genuine or not, but a point worth thinking about is bogus cops....it's easy to buy yourself some blue flashers and put them in your grill....potential rapist or car jacker standard kit...

ye a couple of years ago there was a car going round with blue lights in the front grill and pulling people, it wasn't a cop car tho, can anyone else remember?? i wouldn't open my windows or doors until you can verify their identity guys.
badboyracer 28-08-2007, 14:48 my mates got a mk2 gti, gear ratio is minbt on them same engines i think, mk1 golfs run 0-60 in 6.6 sec estimate,
thats the reason, people with newer cars think they will out run this guy!! thats the point i think is to catch you!
when my mate got pulled, the guy show him his badge and just briefly warned him, did not fine him or anything,

did the 'officer' have full uniform on / did the car use blue lights to stop him/ what did the badge look like...I only ask because this is starting to sound highly suspicious.

Sorry fella but a standard mk1 runs 0-60 in around 8.3 seconds. Similar to the mk2 16v (8.1 seconds). They were very fast back in the day but not so fast now. Still great fun to drive though. And yes, I do own and drive a mk1 gti.
Now a tuned and modded mk1 will humble most cars...

2001louise 29-08-2007, 09:08 I've seen a few in my time!
so your golf isn't tuned and modded up then.
No. Mine is fairly standard. A few subtle tweaks here and there but nothing lairy or boy racer like...
2001louise 29-08-2007, 09:20 must admit i do like the mark 1 golf, and if i had a choice between a mark 4 (which i have got) and a mark one, i would chose the mark 1, something about them what i like but i dont know what

Having owned a Mk1 GTI, i wouldnt dream of trying to make it go faster without first doing something about the (lack of) brakes. The standard setup is truely shocking :hihi:

Most fun car I've had I think. Never been in a mk4. Nice and refined I would imagine but not as much fun in the twisty bits!

The standard brakes do actually work ok (if set up properly). There is just a lot of pedal travel and you do have to press damn hard. They certainly don't inspire much confidence though and it was the first thing I did when I got mine...

Thats right, emergency stop - two hands under the steering wheel and stand on the pedal as hard as you could :hihi:

well mine is a turbo,1.8 20valve, with 180bhp, nippy must admit and was scared sh**less the first time i drove it, abit slow on twisty bits but fast on the straight. il swap you for a test drive lol
boutiquechoc 29-08-2007, 12:01 They also use a 51 plate green volvo S40 - seen it flashing the lights in the grill on the parkway before.

That's the one! Should always pack a spare pare of trousers :hihi:

Quite a few mk1s running around with the 20vt engine in them. Most are the 225bhp version form the audi tt too. Now they are quick (if they can ever get all the power down :loopy:)

Yeah right! I know well looked after MK1 Golf's that would **** all over any modern Subaru. Its what u can afford to put under the hood that matters, not what silly stickers you put down the sides or in the window.

Yeah there have been a few chancers in the past ten years or so. Me and my mates were once attempted to be stopped on ponds forge round -a- bout by a verry shoddy lookin silver Vauxhall Carlton with flashers in front grille. I know carltons are well used by police but when they wouldnt hold up their badges or warrant cards we nail'd it up parkway, (pre camera), n they didnt follow.
boo!!!!!! 29-08-2007, 16:54 In respect of the possibility of undercover cops using MK1 Golf Gti to pull speeders:-
I can totally believe this is true, police will use any tactics they can to catch criminals, (speeders ARE criminals), who would expect a MK1 golf to pull them, They are usually driven at 90mph down penistone road by teenage numpty's are'nt they???
Be aware of undercover motorbikes round sheffield too, various colours and models with no obvious markings doin the same job, i hear they have a base in city centre and cruise around all areas.
Don't get me wrong I have my fair share of points, some for speeding but at end of the day I have learnt my lesson and are now ready to have them removed from my licence and benefit from cheaper insurance. When all's said and done its the actions of the silly few that keep all our insurance premiums high, Bring out more undercover cops in old bangers I say!!
YES
One of the police tv cop shows actualy showed the police finding the car in a pub car park - think it was found handsworth area - seem to remember the tv showed the real police seeing the vehicle which then chased and it was left in the car park - hope my memory is right

Bit of a generalisation isn't it? When was the last time you saw a mk1 golf, let alone being driven by a numpty???

no teenage numptys normally drive corsa or saxo
Craig7777 29-08-2007, 18:17 I have heard in barnsley the undercover cops are using a model t ford (http://www.vintagewedding-cars.co.uk/images/modeltford.jpg)
Anybody know if this is true?
:):)
