when i was pregnat with my son i used to eat satsuma + twiglet sandwiches, and crave petrol and most things like that,
I used to love going past a builing site to smell the dust and in the petrol station ( i only smelt the stuff dont worry i never went there ).
With my daughtyer it was fruit n nut( the big bars) and the same again but not as strong with the petrol etc...
I have herd it is a lack of something (iron ?)
With both i drank 4 pints of milk a day (but suffered lots with heart burn )
and must say everyone said milk makes the babys bones grow and some where it must be true my son was 9lb 12oz
(c section before u say ouch )
and my daughter was 8lb 9oz at a week early as i had a elected c section

so what did/does everyone else crave

With baby no 1 it was pickled onions. I used to eat theem by the jar full and used to have a packet of Walkers pickled onion flavoured crisps everday.

Baby no 2 brought a craving for Refresher sweets. I had to make sure that I had a plentiful supply but occasionally got caught out............. my hubby was to be seen doing the rounds of 24hr petrol stations at 2am.

With my first, my partner had me running around for chips and curry, and if she couldnt get it she went mad at me, then it changed to chips and beans, no wonder my son loves chips!!

With my daughter I ate loads of liver!! I hated it before and wouldn't touch it with a barge pole now!! Iused to microwave it and eat it in sandwiches. I know it's frowned on now as not suitable for pregnant women (thank goodness!!)

With my son I ate tray after tray of ice cubes. I would sit and crunch them one at a time. Yummy!! I also had a real 'thing' for cheap pine disinfectant. I had a really strong urge to drink it but of course I didn't! Instead I used to dilute it down into a spray bottle and spray it where ever I was sat so I could smell it. I also put in on cloths that I then put to my face to smell/breathe in!!

I also ate loads of bacon, despite the fact that I was a vegi!!

How odd!!

My mum had serious cravings for vanilla slices when she was pregnant with me, she ate that many everyone thought I was going to pop out looking like a big vinilla slice :?

I think she single handedly kept Fletchers bread vans going for 9 months buying vinilla slices every day :P

bacon sandwiches. not given in yet though (am vegi). strange as i always disliked bacon, even as a meat eater. i actually dreamed about cooking it, cutting off the fat and yukky bit, washing it in hot water to get white bits off, and havin it on sandwich with hendersons?!?!

At first Pink Grapefruit, Had to be pink no other would do and I had about three a day. I suffered terrible morning sickness and it was all I could manage to keep down.

Later on Fizzy Vimto. Was the best day of my life when a customer walked into the pub I ran at the time with a crate of the stuff for me. Think that lasted about a day. For some reason, my son won't touch the stuff!

Cold pizza with tuna! The lady with the tea trolly where I worked used to save me a slice of pizza from the day before and I'd have it for breakfast!

This craving gave way to cauliflower cheese which I ate morning, noon and night. Can't stand the stuff now.

When my mum was pregnant with me, she had a craving for Guinness.

Now, in small town Nottinghamshire in 1961 it wasn't the done thing for pregnant women to go in to pubs, so quite frequently my mum had to put up with her cravings.

When I was born, for days afterwards I was licking my lips, as if I'd picked up on mum's feelings!

It took me 30 years to start drinking Guinness, and now I adore it!

With my first, it was Bitter Lemon (but only with lots of ice) - for the last three months I drank two litres a day - and my god did it give me heartburn - yet I still drank it. :loopy:

With my second it was egg mayonnaise sandwiches (made whil e the egg was still warm so that it slightly melted the butter on the bread) - god they hit the spot:D

When my mum was pregnant with me, her craving was for Clarnico Mint Creams, and even though you hardly see them around any more I absolutely adore them even though everyone else thinks they're a bit yukky!

My mum never had any cravings with me or my little bro, she just went off things, mainly the unhealthy things like coffee and fried food, she couldn't even stand the smell of a frying pan warming up, never mind the smell of food in it!!!!

I craved shephards pie when I was pregnant with my son but the shephards pie had to be stone cold, I absolutely hated hot foods and went right off Roast Dinners.

I suffered bad heartburn as well, I was told that it meant the baby has alot of hair and when my son was born by c section on Christmas Day he had a mop of jet black hair and weighted 7lb 14 oz.

I enjoyed the pregnancy I thought it was great, cant wait to do it all over again someday.

The craving I had all through my first pregnancy was for maltesers. Like others here, I also had poor hubby trawling the late night garages when supplies ran low. Other cravings came and went (including one very fattening phase of scones with clotted cream). The weird thing was, my mum was going through chemotherapy at the time and we found we often had the same cravings. When she was feeling really sick and unable to eat anything she'd phone me up and ask what my craving was at that moment, and she usually found she was able to eat that particular thing!

I'm 6 months on, and still no cravings, either. Went off things during the first trimester, but mainly I'm just hungrier.

I did have an artichoke hearts thing at about 12-14 weeks, couldn't get enough, but that was it. And one morning when I made my lovely husband take me to Little Chef for pancakes and hash browns with maple syrup, which he was dreading would become a craving, but it never did.

Kind of feel like I'm missing out, lol.

Wait, hold on...I do have 2 major, barely controllable cravings...

A bottle of really nice, ice cold Chardonnay...the whole thing, at one sitting...

AND GIVE ME A CIGARETTE!!!!!!!

Though of course, I wouldn't dream of it.

Okay, so I dream of it.

Wouldn't do it, though.

Okay, so just the odd glass of wine.

Six glasses in six months.

No ciggies.

Honest.

My Mom had really bad cravings for corn flakes when she was pregnant with me, but could only eat them when they were REALLY crunchy. My Dad was apparrently finding half eaten bowles of flakes all over the kitchen!

That said she also smoked 60 cigarettes a day throughout her entire pregnancy. The doctors kept warning her that I would be tiny, but I weighed 8lb 4oz, and I'm now 6ft 6in! :D

If she hadn't smoked, would I have been in the Guinness Book of Records?

Both times I was pregnant EVERYTHING tasted funny for the first four months (horrid metallic taste - a bit like dirty pennies) I used to suck Kop-Kops (sp?) and Kola Kubes which helped a little. The sickness will pass eventually (mine was completely gone by 5 months) as will the tiredness (also usually goes by about five months). The only thing I can recommend is try and get plenty of little cat-naps in if you can (it does help). Have you tried ginger tea (lemon and ginger is lovely), or nibbling on little pieces of stem ginger (or even ginger nut biscuits can help) for the nausea - ginger can help take the edge off and make it a little more bearable.

Hang on in there by about six months you should be feeling more human again - which just leaves you with the wanting to pee all the time to look forward to from seven months onwards when the baby decides to take up residence on top of your bladder:D

With my first I craved pickles - used to eat jars of them at a time. Luckily that passed after 3 months and I started to crave flumps - used to get sweet shop sized buckets of them from Makro!

With my second I had a craving for strawberry shoe laces and wham bars for the entire pregnancy - yum!

my auntie used to own the local pub and noticed that the blue things that you put in the toilets kept going missing... you are not going to believe this but my auntie walked in the toilet to find the local pregnant girl munching on one! she admitted that she had took quite a few and appologised, we all just laughed but it was quite worrying and very bizarre... apparently when she used to go in with her husband to drink orange juice she got really bad cravings for them :suspect: :gag:

Huh, some weird stuff going on out there.

One colleague would eat chalk, didn't matter what colour, just chalk. I guess she was in need of calcium (?) and it sure would have stopped the heartburn :hihi:

First child: ate loads of boy-food; jacket potatoes, mashed potatoes, stodge, bread and butter pudding and I ate those revolting nylon marshmallow things between two puny balsa wood wafers called Pink and Whites - beeyak! I also went off brown bread, I could NOT stomach it.

I had a boy.

Second child: Greek salad. ALL THE TIME! Lots of fruit, rich tea biscuits first thing in the morning and could only eat coco pops for breakfast for first 5 months, then I turned into the Marmite Monster.

I had a girl.

This time: I'm a veggie and I'm craving fish like tuna, smoked salmon, anchovies and salade niçoise. Bizwoire!

Any ideas any one?

It started off ok, I wanted midget gems, mushy peas, I had a jacket spud every day, and KFC:gag: I even had a thing for milk even though I don't like it.

I felt like I wanted something salty all the time.

Towards the end though things got weird, I stopped smoking and my cravings went through the roof, I wanted to chew ice cubes, eat dust, fag ash and chalk. I know people think I am making it up but I actually ate those things, I didn't like them but the craving was always there. we where painting the living room and the wall paper was took down, so I decided to lick the wall to see if it would take it away, very odd:loopy:

With my second, I cant remember having any real cravings - just went off coffee, and felt sick for a couple of months.
Must have done it right though, first was 9lb 6 oz & second 10lb 8oz - both boys.
