View Full Version : February 14th... Valentines Day!
I am a true romantic especially when it comes to Valentines... I always look forward in surprising the man in my Life... Showering him with Love Passion & Romance... I dont have any idea's as yet tho :?... but lets just say without doubt there will be surprises in store
How will you be spending your Valentines day/evening?
Are you planning on surprising your loved one this year?
It will just be a normal Monday for me :D
royjames 03-01-2005, 21:12 Yes I think we will go for a curry and then go down west street for a few beers.
I will of course have given my better half some flowers as this is the least she deserves having to put up with me.

I don't want to appear to be cold hearted but any cards I get go straight in the bin as they tend to be pranks :P
Blimey Angel - you're planning well ahead!!!!!
I hadn't even thought about it. But will be watching this thread with interest for ideas on how to spoil the fella for Valentine's Day!
(at least its not a leap year so there'll be less of us girls proposing - guys you can relax a little!)
I'll prolly be looking at SHU's new Union.
Tis' a lonely life moderating :hihi:
FairyNormal 03-01-2005, 21:26 I'll be sat thinking "Thank goodness I am single!!"
If I seem to be deviating towards a relationship again, I hope my friends will kick/punch/slap me to my senses!!

Ewww.. surely things cant be that bad...
Your admirers maybe on looking... :)
I think I'll be agreeing with most of the guys, it'll probably be a regular day for me too... to be honest I think valentines day is one of the worst days EVER, cus if your not in a r/ship it makes you feel like crap watching everyone have a fun time and your all single :(
I've only ever been with a girl on valentines day once and that didn't really count seen as she was in South Africa at the time, I still spent a fortune on her thought, although, I spent more on our anniversary I think... bah...
the chances of me getting into a r/ship before valentines day are MEGA slim... the chances of any girl sending me a valentines card if I'm not dating them is even slimmer... the chances my mum or my gran will try and annoy me yet again sending me a card as a spoof... VERY likely :P
slimsid2000 04-01-2005, 13:21 As someone who doesn't have a girlfriend myself I really don't like Valentines Day. It just seems to rub it in even more than the rest of the year.
Maybe if I evr get a girlfriend I will change my view of it.
I absolutly adore valentines day to be honest, i knows it all commercial crap but i just love seeing the look on my g/f's face when i suprise her.

I'll be in a different country, no Valentines Day for me :D
I prefer to do romantic stuff with my missus at anytime throughout the year as opposed to buying into the whole commercial crap that gets trawled out every year.
Rubysoho 04-01-2005, 15:10 Seeing as its my Birthday - something for that, don't know what though yet - will have to wait and see:D
A few years ago I would have been sat in drowning my sorrows and being depressed. These days I prefer to go out and celebrate how fantastically free my life is. I wouldn't have it any other way. If I'm feeling romantic on the night, I may buy myself a crate of beer as a valentines present. That's only if I'm nice to myself until then that is.

It's my sister's birthday too - my Dad was threatening to call her 'Valentina' in an unusual lapse of taste - but luckily he was talked out of it !! :D

Hmmm i think this could be a touch of those in glass houses an all that lol :P
I do understand the hate in Valentines whilst single... been there many a year... getting back from work hoping somewhere out there i had an admirer who had sent me a card lol sad i know....
I could always rely on good ole Mum tho  never let me down in my singles years on Valentines!
I don't believe in Valentine's Day, in my opinion it's just something devised by card shop bosses to make money between Christmas and Easter.

angelgirluk 20-01-2005, 16:53 Ok guys... I am in need of some good ideas. Some romanitc ideas that won't cost too much - NOT because I am a cheap skate but because I haven't been back to work yet since my dad died and, well... let's just say I have money issues right now!!!
Ideally I would like to know about some really romantic hotels who will pamper and spoil you as part of the package.. and if the price is right I'd go for something like that LOL..
Neither me or my guy have a car so it has to be easily accessable really or a coach ride away (not too far obviously).
OR.. somewhere nice for a romantic meal. It's hard because I want to spoil him silly and thank him for being there for me over the past few months but like I said, the cash side of things might just let that down.
ALLLLL IDEAS WELCOME X X X
Thanks Peeps!!!!!!

Hey Angelgirl,
Sorry to hear you've had a rough time. If you want to do something special that's not going to break the bank, why not cook him a lovely meal at home? With the right preparation, candles, rose petals, music etc. it could be very memorable!
Another thought, if you want to get him a gift, why not make something for him? It will show him that you're prepared to invest something much more precious in him than cash (time!), and will be unique to you.
Hope it goes well whatever you do!

angelgirluk 20-01-2005, 20:15 Yeah thats great! Thanks for the ideas! You know what, I was going to make him a card anyway (quite artistic really) and maybe I will make him a small gift too - those sort of things generally mean a lot more to someone too, don't they?! :)
I think cooking a meal will also be very nice - thanks for the help K.. you are a gem!

No problems Angel, they don't call me 'Dr Romantic' for nothing... come to think of it they don't call me that at all! :)
Hope it all goes well,

I'll be nowt on Valentines day either. Going to work. Going home. Pah.
Work then laying in bed, staring at the empty space next to me and crying....
...so no different to any other day really ;) :(
sheffexpat 21-01-2005, 19:18 I hate St. Valentine's Day.
I always have a big row with the postman over all the letters he has to stagger up the path with.Envious , I should think.
I've decided what I'm doing, the open night for the new Sheffield Hallam Union :D hopefully I might get lucky, and if I dont... I'll get drunk with my mates... either way its a winner :D
angelgirluk: get some of the smelly stuff from Lush... like one of those massage bars do a strip for him (after you've done all the special meal thing), get him to get all undressed, give him a massage whilst your nekkid then well, I'll let you guess the rest of it after the sexy massage and stripping for him...
if you do that and both dont have a good valentines day then somethings wrong! lol... the massage bars in Lush are about £2 or £3 if I remember correctly... I have one in my room somewhere... massages rock with girls :D but personally I love a massage from a girl, you can make them very erotic ;) and when your both covered in oily stuff well... it makes things fun ;)

Ka-Ching!
Precisely.
As someone who is lucky enough to have the most wonderful woman on earth as my lover and mate, we will both ignoring valentines day for the over-marketed, enforced recreation type corporate occurence that it is. Preferring instead to show our love at a more mundane and daily level as much as possible.
I find Valentines day the most unromantic day of the year. It just shows people up. If you are truely romantic, then it wouldn't be a special day because there would be nothing strange about making a fuss of your loved one. Sending a card isn't romantic.
Maybe it's just me, but I think romance is about making someone feel special everyday, and not about buying some flowers from a petrol station on the way home from work and complaining to your mates in the pub that they will be so much cheaper on Feb 15th!

coopster1974 02-02-2005, 18:10 How's this? Try showing your love everyday of the year not just on 14th Feb?
Its commercialised and only appeals to those who cant be bothered the other 364 days of the year.
Guys - try buying flowers once a week
Girls - try giving BJ's once a week
The love of your life will appreciate regularity rather than once a year!!
angelgirluk 02-02-2005, 19:18 Yummy To the idea of a good massage!!!!
Sounds like I might be popping into Lush tomorrow ;)
Cheers for the idea guys, been a great help!
PS... Wish me LOADSA luck I have several interviews lined up this week and I NEEEEED a full time job very quickly so keep them crossed x x x

Yep, has its advantages, no-one to buy for :hihi:
Altho yours truly is making an exception this year for a special friend :suspect:
Isn't anyone going to submit any valentine poems then?
Perhaps, we could have a feature that enables people to post as 'guests' for a couple of weeks. This would enable them to write anonymous valentine message/poems about their sweethearts/potential sweethearts. :D

I'm not bitter but I really don't like Valentine's day. I do think it's a bit of a money making venture but more than that it's a day when anyone who's in a relationship can be really smug about it.
I mean it's all a bit fake isn't is? All these people who's relationships (I doubt) are far from perfect the rest of the year can harp on about being in love and how great it is to have a partner.
Where's the day to celebrate independent single people?
Yeah OK I am bitter!
I guess these people who are so bitter and sick of valentines day would be just down right offended and sickened if they were to get a card or a gift then? :D

No-one would send gifts/cards to such bitter and twisted people - it would be a blatant waste of time.

I see, I will try and remember that.
"Must not give gifts to bitter and twisted people... " Does this count for birthdays too? :D
I'm thinking of letting her off cleaning out the gutters that day. And before any of you lot start slagging me off, I thoughtfully bought her a new set of ladders for her birthday to make the job easier.
See,.... I do care.

No Birthdays are perfectly acceptable as they do not discriminate. In fact people who don't receive Valentines gifts should actually be entitled to extra Birthday gifts to compensate.

Ah, I see your logic now. Compensate with something big like 'a car' just to use an example off the top of my head. A car to wear a new pink wig in?

pussycat 10-02-2005, 14:03 The whole "romance" thing makes me want to barf :gag:
I can't stand any of the traditional, no-thought-required, off-the-shelf romantic crap like flowers and chocolates, weekend away, "romantic" meal with 50 other people crammed into a restaurant.
As others have said, if your relationship is truly special then you celebrate it every day!
Last year Mr Pussycat sent flowers to my work for me and I was absolutely FURIOUS at him for showing me up like that (and spending £40!). Usually we don't do anything, but he was away and knew I'd be missing him - hopefully he won't make the same mistake this year as he's away again...:suspect: Hmmmm...Maybe he has a special Valentines Mistress!!!:suspect:
hmm. It will just be a normal day at work for me as usual. Will try and avoid all the couply people asking why I didnt get any valentines cards!

I've just been to buy two Valentines cards - one for each of my nieces. The girl in the shop (who looked around 16) looked incredulous as I handed the cards to her then asked in a very surprised voice :
You have two Valentines ??
I should have told her I was having two concurrent torrid affairs I guess :hihi:
More additions for that little black book of yours eh Sian :hihi: :heyhey:

Aaarrrggghhh 13-02-2005, 09:03 Incredible that even though the 'against' this 'occasion' is about the same as the 'for', no one has actually outlined the source, authenticity and relevance.
And many of you will have 'opinions' about all the other occasions, celebrations, religions, rituals that take place around you as well.
Stinking falsehood. Shallow minds.
Get a life.
