View Full Version : Azureus problem
Classic Rock 25-08-2007, 23:38 I've been using Azureus (not for illegal purposes!), recently tried limewire, realised within seconds it was no good and uninstalled it, and now whenever I try to download a torrent through Azureus, it always associates it with limewire and brings up an error message and won't let me go any further.
How can I get it to disassociate with limewire and return to Azureus?

Right click the torrent file.
Choose Azureus
Choose 'open with'
and tick the box that says 'always open this kind of file with this blah, blah or something'
That should sort it.
Classic Rock 25-08-2007, 23:46 I don't get that option!
Classic Rock 25-08-2007, 23:48 Open

Remove Azureus altogether and replace with utorrent (which is miles better)

However i do know enough to dissagree with this.
Utorrent gave me quite a few problems such as slowinf my pc down when in use and killing my bb connection.
Its not a slow out of date pc either.
Go into My Computer... then to Tools... Then to Folder Options.
After that you will see a File Types tab, go in there and look for file extensions like .tor or .torrent and change the default program back to azureus
That should sort it

mines the opposite i used to use azureus but got to the point that with one torrent running it slowed to a crawl that i couldnt surf.
got rid and started on utorrent now i can have 2-5 downloading, a couple uploading and its not as bad
i vote ditch azureus too, go with utorrent :)

I don't know how to get around it but I assume when you have done this in the past you have ticked the 'Always do this with this file extension from now on' option and therefore you won't get the option, I would assume that changing the file association via windows would be the done thing or is there a right click option, I have no idea as I never tick it, I prefer the right to choose in case there is ever a problem.

newzbin - they sort all the newsgroups together and make them searchable. its free to search but its like $4 US every 2 months to dl all the files you want.
You'll need to pay someone like astraweb or giganews to get binaries (programs, rather than all text groups), but if you do they tend to either have their own client for download or have some kind of website frontend for searching and downloading - I know easynews have a setup that lets you search and download direct from ther website. If you have a client already you can download .nzb files (newsgroup index files) for free from http://binsearch.info or you can pay and get a snazzier frontend if you like from http://newzbin.com.
Hope this helps,
melthebell 27-08-2007, 10:28 hmmmm just my mate says he uses powergrab to download stuff using isp lists of groups
dont think he pays anybody for anything different

Well some ISPs do offer binaries, though the retention won't be anything like as good... I think giganews has something like 90 or 120 days' retention, whereas when we offered binary newsgroups our retention was 3 days. You'll need to check if your ISP does offer newsgroup access to find out what the news server address is (usually news.isp.com), if it's text only and if not what their retention is like.

News Server news.dial.pipex.com is the nearest ive got??
but it came up with an error in powergrab still
the OP problem sounds like they are right clicking the file in the browser... you need t o 'Save Target As' and save it on your desktop or something...
then, you can right click the file on your desktop, and right click and open with as described above.. however this will NOT fix direct clicks in your browser...
for this, depends on which version of Azureus your using, check the Azureus website / wiki for how to restore this...

I don't get the option to Save as....
Think I'll wave bye bye to Azureus.
You said a previous reply you do....
Open

Print target

Classic Rock 28-08-2007, 10:04 Hmmm, it's not there anymore! When it was there it would let me save only as a program! Azureus now deleted. Utorrent installed but not willing to download anything.
Newsgroups sound interesting. Never dabbled in them. Are they easy to use?
melthebell 28-08-2007, 18:40 no lol
thats why i cant get my head round em :P
why wont utorrent download?
seeds?
John_2006 28-08-2007, 20:52 Double click on my computer
select tools from the tabs along the top, then select folder options
Now select file types from the tabs
Now scroll down the window until you find the word TORRENT in the file extension field. Highlight the word TORRENT by left clicking once.
Now you will notice in the text box towards the bottom it say's open's with LIMEWIRE...... you need to click the change button and browse to C:\Program Files\Azureus\Azureus.exe (the frog icon) left click to highlight Azureus.exe and click OPEN.
Now click OK on the box it takes you back to.
Job Done, Torrents will now open in Azureus.
Hope this helps:cool:
