My OH and I have put an offer in on a house and they want to see our mortgage in principle, which is fine, we've got that sorted, but they also now want our solictors details.
My OH panicked and said we had one and he'd let them know the details. :loopy: Is this normal before an offer has even been accepted?
If we do need one, then someone please help with a recommendation! it would be relevatively simple, we're FTB and it's a company that own the house, so we'd like someone cheap who could move relatively fast.
Help!!
hackett windle - they have a website.
did the deal for a client of mine in 2 weeks - although i think they average 4-6.

Cheap & fast do not match, for a quick service you will have to pay a reasonable amount.

Watson Esam in Paradise Square are excellent and well priced. Iv'e used them for my house purchase and for other legal things (not criminal) I will again use them next year when I sell my house and I was so impressed with their service.

In my experience it's the individual solicitor or legal executive that matters a lot more than the firm that they work for. As in every other occupation, two people doing the same job for the same company can vary wildly in quality, speed, accessibility, friendliness, efficiency etc.
Having said that, I haven't used a solicitor in this area so I can't help you I'm afraid.
I recently bought a house and used Coates Solicitors. They were really quick (I'm a FTB as well).

Currently using Irwin mitchell, bit more expensive than some but after experiencing the idiots that the people we're buying from are using then the old saying "you get what you pay for" then I'd rather pay a bit more for quality.
Would second Coates (Pauline Coates, Mosborough). I have used them in the past two years for loads of stuff.

Third for coates, we had a very difficult, lengthy purchase and they were great.

Ring up for quotes from the more reputable firms. Some might match the lower ones due to competition but I would agree that it really depends on the actual person doing the job than the firm. Oh, and also depending on the other side's solicitors. Even if you get a diligent guy doing your work, there is no guarantee that the other side is going to be the same.
