View Full Version : When do we stop paying council tax? gpsy 03-01-2005, 13:40 I know that every year you get a month or couple of months break from paying council tax if you pay by direct debit (which I do), but I can't remember which month(s) they are. No, just asserting my rights as a citizen. :) We received a letter from the town hall saying that we have underpaid by £300 and it is being taken out by DD in Jan and Feb....... Nice Christmas present....Thanks! Last year we overpaid on one property by about four months. So, fairly reasonably (I thought!) I didn't pay anything in Apr/May/Jun/Jul, making a payment in Aug. After all, I was four months in credit, wasn't I? No! I received a summons warning claiming I was three months in arrears! What the council had done was see I was in credit in Apr and so sliced 1/4 off each month, not sliced 1/4 off the year! Getting summonsed for overpaying?
