I was wondering if any one on the forum could give me some advice. I am hoping to get around to buying a house this year at some point. I don't want to spend more than 110,000 and ideally less than 100,000.

I know a lot of the areas close to the city centre and areas that people tend to avoid but i'd like to move a bit further out (as I want to get away from the traffic and have a house with a garden and be able to park)

I was wondering if anyone had any veiws on suitable areas for first time buyers a bit further out of sheffield and that are not too dodgy?

maybe owlthorpe, beighton, killamarsh or eckington. they are areas around where i am and seem to be quiet and prices arent out of your reach. close to tram routes and crystal peaks and rother valley as well.

Woodhouse has 565,000,000 buses a day (if you believe some posts) or a 52 service that runs regularly and takes about 30 mins to town. The train get's you in in 10 mins though. Train gets to meadowhall in 20 mins.

It's near Crystal Peaks and Rother valley, has plenty of pubs and 3? restaurants. Near J31 M1 and handy for M18.

2up/2down currently iro £80k.

Have a look at vebra.com in S13.

I tend to agree that you'll probably get a little more for your money in one of the Mosboro townships than in a more established area closer to town unless you go with what might be considered a less desirable suburb. I lived out at Halfway before moving to Bradway and found it okay for likes of Mosboro village pubs, Crystal Peaks and getting to the Motorway. Bus journey into town was a bit of a drag but since I left the Supertram has improved things on the commuting front.

Moving to Bradway I stuck with the old adage of getting into what is considered by some as a decent area, but only by buying the worst house, as thats all I could afford at the time. Don't regret this acting on this advice and as a bonus my local sells the cheapest pint of ale in Sheff!

Accordingly I wouldn't automatically rule borderline areas out that appear slighty over budget but rather consider properties individually.

Thanks for the advice, I don't work in town so transport is not a problem for me.

I shall have to do some research into the areas mentioned, I've got to admitt I've not looked around the crystal peaks area of sheffield yet, been stuck around the south side mostly, i shall have to have a proper drive around!

I agree - a drive round gives you the best idea of an area. I usually look at the cars parked in a street. They can tell you a lot about an area.

I'm also having a similar problem...

We found the houses around Meersbrook, Norton and Woodseats not to astronomical. They can be anything from £90k to £125K.

However lots of the houses are terraces and parking looks to be a bit of a nightmare.

I live in meersbrook now and the terraces do look like a nightmare to park around, I don't think i could cope with it as I have to carry lots of work to and from the car, plus I really would like to have a drive as we have had problems with the people breaking wingmirrors and breaking into our cars on the road we rent on in meersbrook. ( although its gone very quiet at the moment!)

I like woodseats but again parking and traffic is a nighmare around there. I'd prefer to be further out of sheffield centre also

Maybe I'm just being to fussy when I can't afford to be!

Some of the terraces in Woodhouse have bigger gardens/parking space infront

Seen a few around woodhouse it seems ok, and I see what you mean about them having gardens/drives to.

I think I shall have to wait until further into the new year as there seems to be shortage of house up for a sale at this time of year, eveyone is recovering from christmas!

Ta for the help strix!
