Register with Anderselite. Takes cherfin ages, but I've found them the best for engineering.

What's your background? What CAD package do you use?

Hi there,

Get the Yellow Pages - there are lots of agencies listed and I'd suggest that you get yourslef on the books pof a few, even if they'e not dealing with the jobs you're wanting to do. The employment market is still a bit flat, so take what you can!

Most important, have you got your work permit / immigration documents sorted out? Get some copies made of them. Keep a couple of sets somewhere safe 'just in case'. Ensure that you have some banking facilities lined up. Not all agencies will pay in to an overseas account because of Money Laundering rules or general incompetence...:)

Very few agencies or employers will pay 'cash in hand' so you will need a bank account to receive funds.

To get a UK bank account you will require some proof of identity and address - check with the different banks to see what they expect you to have. Even if you don't have the 'usual' documents required - driving licence, passport, utility bills, etc. it's usually possible for a bank to open an account under special circumstances with documents from a GP, your pastor / priest / Imman / Rabbi, embassy, etc. Get on this as soon as possible because it will almost certainly take time!

Currency - as you're almost certainly aware the UK is in the EU but not in the Euro. The Pound Sterling (the little yellow coins) are made up of 100 pence. We have 1p, 2p coins in bronze, 5,10,20 and 50p coins in silver, the brass coloured Pound Coin and a 2 pound coin with is brass and silver. Then we have paper money for 5,10,20 and 50 pounds. Avoid 50 pound notes where you can - because of the risk of forgery some places will not take them.

OK...what else can we suggest?

Have fun!

Joe
