I had a springer spaniel for 13 years, he used to squat down, like a girl, to pee. Probably, as a breed, they are used to working in the field and don't encounter many lamp posts - cocking a leg is probably a "townie" dog thing - I wouldn't worry about him, or his sexuality ;)

My friends dog can't cock his leg because of two dislocated hips. He does look amusing when he is walking!!

The reason male dogs cock their leg to pee is to spread their scent as much as possible... so if a dog hasn't got much testosterone and doesn't feel the need to go around 'marking his turf' then there's no need to cock his leg! ;)

ive got a labrador called max and he is nearly 2, he has never yet cocked his leg to wee. i think he looks funny crouching down.

Alfie has cocked his leg since about 6 months. I know some dogs revert to crouching after being done.

Stranger Jynx - a little girl - half crouches, half cocks her leg! We think she does it because the wee would run down the hair on her legs otherwise.

I can a sure you he is a shih tzu. and he looks like a shih tzu. maybe they say he looks like a terrier because his fur is short.

He looks far more like a lhasa most of the time to me, but he's more Bailey than anything else.

My lurcher Durham squats to wee but sometimes cocks his leg, often males neutered early will not start to cock their leg as its a male marking thing, also submissive low ranking dogs will squat rather than cock their leg.

Guinness didn't start to cock his leg up until he was about 18 months old, we didn't think he was ever going to, then we took him on holiday with my brothers dog and he seemed to learn off him that he should cock his leg up... I'm not sure he knows why though because sometimes he does it and he doesn't even have a wee, just stands there :hihi:
