Windows MSN Messenger is now called Windows Live messenger, Windows LIVE is the 'new' integrated everything.... its the same, just LIVE = the new version, they use the same server(s) and network etc...

Its the same. Microsoft have just started adding Windows Live to everything. Don't pay for it either, there are a few sites out there that will charge you for the download.

If you only use it to communicate with trusted friends you should be okay

Hi Mel

Though I'm not Mel I'll answer this. I believe the risk is the same as any other internet activity, if you go to trusted places then you should be safe. Most firewalls have specific rules for instant messenger software and if you have virus software that will check |MSN by default I believe, check your file transfer options in messenger and make sure scan all transferred files is checked. So long as you have a good firewall and good AV software you should be safe. Also make sure encrypt conversations is ticked in security options.
