Ada Gillett (the name may not be spelled right) was my piano teacher and lived on Wheel Lane, Ecclesfield. I was one of her pupils from 1953-1954. I left Sheffield in 1955 but I heard that she married later on and was the organist at Ecclesfield parish church.(St Marys?). Would like to hear from anyone who also knew her.

I was postman in Ecclesfield and knew Miss Ada Gillott. She lived at 245 The Wheel. She was cousin to the postlady who worked with me (their fathers were brothers). She was a quiet person, but always spoke when she saw you. She did marry in later life, sometime in the 1960's, and I seem to remember her name became Beeston. She passed away many years ago. She did play the organ at St. Mary's too. She was one of the old school who had values and lived by them.

Spotting the reference to Ada Gillott (whom I remember well), I am prompted to wonder whether anyone has memories of any other Ecclesfield "characters" of the 50s and before. I am thinking of people like Percy Brummitt, George Shaw and others.
