Agent Gypo 11-12-2004, 17:04 Fantastic result today for the 'premiership club' as Brentford played 70 minutes with just 10 men and beat the alleged best team in Sheffield in front of their own fans.
Can anyone explain how this could happen to such a great team?

Why aren't you on the way to the match? Are you a unitedite? If so, why aren't you on the way to the match to give your "premiership" club the support? Why are you more bothered about our result than going to see your team? Typical blade.
Well, look bright. Brian Little still has you down as promotion hopefuls.
Then again, we had faith in Little once.
Tonight's interview with Sturrock was surprisingly frank. But it needs to be. Realism is the only way you'll turn the tide...Turner's constant blaming everybody else from the referee to the guy playing buttons in the xmas panto, but not himself - well, didn't work did it?

I'd still go to see the owls even if we were on telly. Its funny how like last night all the pubs around Handsworth are full of blades when they are on the telly. When we are on sky there are hardly any wednesdayites in 'cos we are all at the match supporting the club like what a proper fan should do.

there is 2 big differences when games are on sky!!
you can watch them on sky, in a nice cosy enviroment!
and you are also able to drink beer while watching the game!
if your at the game, your in a shed (as is the case with rotherham) and are cold!
now personally i would have liked to go, but i thought it would be a sell out so dint try buying a ticket!

That would be because we are playing at a ground that contains a bus stop, a park bench a garden shed and a porta loo as an executive box. Rotherham hate it at half time because the number 69 bus turns up and takes everyone away.
I would have gone but couldn't get a ticket and didn't have time to watch it anyway on the t.v.

Firstly, I couldn't get to the game as I was working. Having two jobs doesn't leave me with much free time.
Secondly, I'm not more bothered about wednesdays result, we're not exactly setting the championship on fire now are we? I just like to see wednesday lose, especially when a few of their fans have used this forum to tell everyone how great they are.

What?? Just like the United fans do?? You're both as bad as each other...ner ner ner ner ner..my teams better than your team....well your team smells of poo...well your team does this..
Its quite amusing to watch a bunch of children talk utter rubbish about their own clubs. :hihi:
Agent Gypo 13-12-2004, 12:24 Then by all means keep an eye on this thread, I'm sure there will be more
Yodameister 13-12-2004, 12:51 I've not seen Wednesday lately, but having seen Brentford struggle to see off that non league side in the cup (can't remember who they were) it is shocking that it has come to the stage where that team can beat them with 10 men for the majority of the match.
I suspect the problem is that Wednesday go out with an expectation that they are going to win, because they believe deep down that they are too good for the league they are in.
kelly_owls 13-12-2004, 18:27 Brentford were absymal and we were much better throughout except when we were threatening their penalty area.
Their keeper was absolute **** and a complete tvvat too. At the end of the game he had to be guarded by stewards on the Kop as there was a few Wednesdayites threatening him, as he had gone a bit too far. I just stuck to the old method of rodding him and swearing at him.
We did not field our first team squad at Brentford anyways, we have too many out through injury and up front we had Super Steve MacLean, a 50% fit Lee Peacock and on the bench an 18yr old with a broken hand.

Its no good just consistently saying "they were rubbish and we were much better". There's only so many times you can use that excuse (I'm not getting at you particularly, just generally from what I have heard Wednesday fans say) before it starts to wear a bit thin.
The problem for wednesady is what I have said many times before on many posts. No money for new players. Sturrock has said the only players available are ones who are either just as good or worse than the ones we have already got. Its a well known fact that Sturrock isn't a big fan of foreign players, which is fine by me after all the foreign crap we've signed at Hillsborough, and they haven't the right mentality for this division anyway so the foreign market is a big no no.
Also, Yodameister, it is possible for a team to play the better football and still lose. We aren't bad going forward with Maclean, Peacock and JP, we just can't score the goals and our defence is a bit hit and miss at the moment. We have had more posession than alot of teams this season.
I think the another main problem as well is the teams mentality at home. At the end of the day they are 2nd division footballers playing in front of premiership crowds in a premiership sized stadium. Theres a huge expectation in the crowd at home to win, and rightly so. Also, away sides treat games like their cup final. A trip to Hillsborough for them is a novelty and they want to win.

I wasn't suggesting you can't be the better team and lose an individual match, just that you are unlikely to have been the better team in every match that you have lost.
Owls seem to have picked up somewhat recently, after today's result 1-1 away to Luton they are now 6th in the league and are looking confident as ever. Lets hope they've turned the corner now and stay up there for the play-offs and get back to where we belong.
Must say, Kenwyn Jones seems to be player of the moment for us! lets hope the goals keep coming.
Up the Owls!
Robbie Loving 01-01-2005, 17:52 must say he is doing well, thats4 in 4 now aint it!!
he is a bit lazy though, when i saw him against walsall he was watching a lot of the ball!
but as long as he is putting em away for you lot its all that matters
Yep Kenwyne is definately the man of the moment down at hillsborough. That goal against Walsall was a gem.
Only problem is he keeps on scoring during the month long loan Mr Redknapp will want him back at Southampton to help them staive off relegation!!
Kenwyn Jones me lord, Kenwyn Jones, Kenwyn Jones me lord, Kenwyn Jones, Oh lord Kenwyn Jones!
What a player. I'm not been funny or owt but he is quality. His positional play is top class. He wins every ball that comes to him. He was top class against Donny and against Vale. Couldn't go today 'cos i'm skint but from what I heard he was class again against Luton. He must be horrible to play against.
Another good result today by the way. Its a bit tight from 4th down but if we keep battling away and grinding out results I think we should make the play- offs. The only bad thing will be trying to get tickets toward the end of the season!
kelly_owls 01-01-2005, 20:15 He was pretty good today.
I have been to about 7 or 8 away games this season and the past 3 away whilst he has been here (Donny, Vale & Luton) have been the best, along with Brizzle and Stocky.
Him and Macca are definitely a force to ne reckoned with although I don't think Jones is up to the Premiership standard yet. His goal was very easy though today and many think it should have been disallowed.
Here's hoping for a Hat-trick against Wrexham tommorrow!
well im off to the game hoping i wont be the kiss of death as they never seem to win when i go
fingers crossed
Wasn't far off with the hat-trick! Kenwyn Jones - What a star!
4-0! What a great result . . fair enough they had a man sent off but thats football, Owls were on the rampage after that!
Come on Wednesday!!!!!
Robbie Loving 03-01-2005, 21:28 many applauds as to what can only be seen as a really positive result,
6 goals in 5 for the youngster, very well done!!
hope fully you will get promoted as the boys in red and white will be doing!!
O'brian's loan spell has been extended lets hope Kenwyn's is as well. His performance in the first half was a bit lackluster but Sturrock's team talk gee'd them all up thank god!
MacLean and Jones up front are proving to be quite a partnership. 14 goals for Macca now, when was the last time we had a striker like that? With Kenwyn scoring as well who knows?
Play-offs here we come for definate I reckon now.
There's internet rumours that Sturrock has pencilled in a £100,000 bid for Kenwyn with Southampton. Redknapp could accept it if he signs another striker before the transfer window. Fingers crossed then?

Ha Ha rumour has it (although i don't know how true it is)
Warnock is looking at jones as a signing!!
I would personally sign him just to annoy weds,
and also get another star performer off our middlewood "production line" ha ha ha
Why would he want to go to a smaller club?

Because he's rather have people who can speak English chanting his name than scruffy drunken chavs with mouthfulls of chip butties.
Unlike your team you must learn to move with the times Gypo . . . it's now called Division 1.

Come on lads. Lets try and keep this on topic which is "Wednesday Chat". The blades have a related "Bladeschat" topic with no owls v blades banter on it lets keep ours the same.
If you want to banter then theres the old topic "wednesday v blades".
Cheers lads.
ps- that goes for me and Robbie Lovin as well by the way!

That's the reason I started the Bladeschat thread, and although I do love to wind up wednesday fans I keep it to the appropiate threads. Did I hear true from a friend that Sturrock has won the manager of the month two months in a row? If so can't fault him for what he has done, shows what Turner knew then.
Too right. Sturrock motivates his players and I think the players enjoy playing for him. His half time team talk against Wrexham must've been phenomenal. When I hear him in interviews he comes across as an intelligent bloke. The thing with Turner I think was that he didn't motivate the players and also he was too close to the club, much like Warnock. He's doing a decent job at Stockport now, which just goes to show what he can do when there's no pressure on him.
I see Warnock's got the manager of the month award, lets hope it isn't a curse!
Was it a case that turner knew the inevitable would happen after so long in charge without results so he didn't/couldn't motivate the team as well? Warnock has got the motivation down to a tee and plays it well even though he is so close to the club it can blind him sometimes and that's why we miss Blackwell sometimes. I still don't think Turner would have made a difference withouth the pressure on him, you have the right manager for the job now.

No, this was actually won by peter taylor, with Hull winning all 6 games and getting them to top of league one for the first time this season
League 2 winner was the yeovil manager.... and they are incidently top of there league too now, after leapfrogging scuny

But, to be fair, there were millions watching the game... been a while since that many watched Wednesday!
I'm really glad that Wednesday are doing so well now, they look good for promotion, as do United. It would be a great day for Sheffield if they both get promoted this season.
I do, of course, realise that i'm in the minority when wanting both teams to do well. I think it's just great that they are both doing so well at the moment.

Nice to see you've moved with the times. Everything changes Kirky . . . well almost everything.
The fact that they come on to the Wednesday thread to "wind" us up shows that they have chips on their shoulders on who the biggest team in Sheffield is. Yes I know what divisions we are both in, and yes they get further in the cup competitions than we do. But whilever they feel the need to bait us I am convinced that they know we are Sheffield's number ONE!!!!
Razor sharp you bovine comedienne.

why is it that when united have a good win its considered that we were "lucky" but when the scum from the opposite side of the city get a good result its because they played amazing football and are going up this season???
can they not accept that the blades are better than them, despite the past records and crowds? if you hadnt noticed the blades are a quality team in a higher division than wednesday!!

Excellent start wiltonsowls, nice to see Kirky giving you a helping hand in taking the p*** out of the smaller club in Sheffield.
Also, Kirky giving anyone spelling lessons is purely laughable in itself!:hihi: :hihi:
We've signed James Quinn from Willem II in Holland til the end of the season to replace Kenwyn. He's a Northern Ireland international striker. Seems like a good signing. He's only scored 12 goals in 52 games though, but what I say is how many did Kenwyn score before he came to us? I trust Sturrock's judgement.
Allen is still after Kenwyn as well according to the Sheffield Telegraph. Doubt Southampton will let him come back though. Its good to see we're still after him, shows ambition from the board for a change.
Chelsea have let Craig Rocastle leave on a free. There's rumours that Dunfermeline and us are after him. He's a midfielder. It could be a good signing if its true, especially now that Hamshaw will be out for a few weeks.
Looks like the club are hell bent on promotion. Hope the scouts have improved in recent years! Like I said though, I trust Sturrock's judgement.
butch1954uk 14-01-2005, 20:23 theres 3 teams in sheffield. wednesday, wednesday reserves, and netheredge juniors
kelly_owls 14-01-2005, 20:43 That's about right ^ ^ ^ ^
By the way, I heard Rocastle wants to stay down south!
Another good result today, coming from behind at a difficult club. Isn't it about time that the luck went our way, scoring in the 90th minute! Well done to Heckingbottom, a point away from home is the least we deserved.
Funny how the 90th minute today turned 2 games . . . even funnier that it involved the pinkies getting nowt!:hihi:

The atmosphere was out of this world at Bournemouth. Non stop singing all the way through. My legs are still aching from all the bouncing!
F****** bounce, F****** bounce,
If you don't F****** bounce then your a blade!
Brilliant!
kelly_owls 17-01-2005, 20:37 Got my tickets for Barnsley and MK today, cannot wait.
Time for Super Stevie to get a goal though don't ya think!
He's lean, he's mean, he's a f***ing goal machine...Steve MacLean!
I'll be getting my tickets soon as well. They'll both sell out easily so i'll have to get a rush on. Be good going to MK Dons for the first time!
The Owls are on Sky tonight, was this pre arranged early in the season or is it on because of what Sturrock has done to the team lately? If so well done to him he is drawing some attention to the club, but also to himslef and this could bad as he could be touted to go somewhere else if the money is right.
P.S. Don't make this thread too long or it will get closed like the Bladeschat:rolleyes:
dont you mean tomorrow nite
Sorry is it tomorrow? I was mis-informed then, thought it was on tonight. Now it has just occured to me they do not have thursday football on Sky. At least it wasn't on last night, everyone will have been watching Exeter-Man Utd.

i thought that ken bates was one of a few parties who where intrested in taking over elland road i like ken bates its just a pity he didnt take over down at s6 only time will tell if that was a good or bad thing:)
Ken Bates looked a good prospect, but there seems to be something very sinister about him to me. Wanting to put electric fences up at The Bridge and ticket prices were £20 in the early 90s for the three tier stand. Would us Wednesday fans have really wanted that? I for one would not.
I never wanted Ken Bates. He's a dodgy bloke and one of his plans that he didn't want made public was to increase ticket prices and get his money back as soon as possible. That would have meant going into administration and starting from scratch. It was a load of rubbish when he said he would have paid 10 million quid into the club and not get anything back. What affection or feeling has he got for us? Nothing. So why have him?
I've always stuck up for Allen. I don't care if i'm in the minority. Some wednesdayites do my head in when they sing Allen out. If it wasn't for him we'd have gone into administration long ago. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have got Sturrock. If it wasn't for him we would'nt have got JP or MacLean. I like the man and i'd shake his hand if I ever met him. He's wednesday through and through and he's put alot of his own money into the club not as loans like some people say but as gifts with no payback.
As for Bates going to Leeds well it just proves what i've just said about him. Leeds and Chelsea have one of the biggest rivalries in British football and Bates is Chelsea through and through. He hasn't got any affection for Leeds at all, he's just there to make money and probably leave them high and dry. Rather them than us thats what I say. I'd have Allen over Bates any day.
Lets all hope Leeds end up in the conference by the end of the decade!

Yeah but if it was not for allen, you would not have signed turner, and probably not ended up in "league one" and still had a lot of good players you previously had!!
im not putting wednesday down, and i dont think bates was right for you, but i also dont think allen is right for you either,
you say you would be in administration, but allen is making your debts worse by still trying to sign players for money which you haven't got which does come in the term of "loans"
We haven't paid for a player this season yet I don't think. We've just signed Quinn but he was on a free. Its a well known fact that our supposedly best players have left. By that I suppose you mean Kuqi, Owusu Quinn, Geary and Bromby. They were crap when they played for us to be fair and i've already said this about the 3 you've got playing for united at the minute. A new start has done them good, but they were crap for us so it made sense getting rid of them.
That goes for Kuqi as well. He didn't exactly scare defenders when he played for us, he wasn't prolific by any means so it made sense to get rid of his wages by off loading him. A fresh start has done him good as well.
Its nothing new former players doing well when they leave us. Even Grant Holt is scoring every week for Rochdale! So getting rid of them makes sense. If it wasn'nt for Allen we wouldn't have Proudlock, MacLean, JP or Lucas. To me they are playing miles better for the club than any of the players united have got off us. So thats why I like Allen.

not owusu nor bromby (although the latter has done right well down with us)
quinny andgeary was always good for you, and you know this!!
kuqi was always destined to show his true form, just did not suit wednesdays style of play!!!
Quinn was crap for us in his last season at hillsborough, ask any wednesdayite. He was a headless chicken who lost the ball all the time. Geary was 100% which I can't fault him for but we're definately not missing him. JP is worth twice both of them put together, the midfield is better without them- everyone is saying it.
Kuqi wasn't very good either for us, no one missed him when he went. He had the odd good game which warranted us singing his name every once in a while. Nothing special though so its no loss to us really. We'll make £150,000 if Ipswich go up so at least he's contributed something to us.
Ive heard that southampton have loaned out kenwyne jones again as soon as they got him back ....anyone else know if its true??
If so i thinks its rather cheeky as they said they needed him back cause of injuries!!!
Robbie Loving 22-01-2005, 15:22 according to saints website no

Jones came on as sub against Liverpool today, so that's that one quashed
I seem to have noticed that in the piggy thread they've resorted to taking the p*** out of wednesday again . . . . couldn't be anything to do with the fact that they are on a magnificent losing streak ( of bacon ) could it?.
Fuuny though how it all started by some Wednesday fan who interestingly hasn't posted under the Owls chat thread yet, came up with a sublime piece of crap and then couldn't answer back execpt in one line bits of drivel.
By the way I will not start an argument here and will say that Mclean will surely be attracting interest from other clubs before the end of the transfer window? Great goal by him the other night and I wish the Blades had someone who would do that on a regular basis (would have trounced Sunderland if we had). But could he do it in the Championship do you think?
Duffman, hard as it is for me to agree with a unitedite . . I've got to agree with you about the 'certain wednesdayite'. Doesn't really have many answers for alot of other things either - just a one-line wonder really.

That's ok we all have to bite our tonge sometimes;) I was just winding Brooksy up to see if he would bite (he either wasn't or couldn't), but maybe we should bring up the Banter thread started by Internetowl so we can take the p**s on there outof each other and just stick to team talk on the respective Blades and Owls chat.
It was a bit of a dire game on Friday, but as long as we grind out results I don't really care. Great goal from MacLean, Quinn was a bit unimpressive but I suppose its to be expected with him trying to adjust to English football.

Didnt think he was that bad, just playing a different game to everyone around him, will need a few weeks to get to know the lads.
Also see Kenwyne got a good 90 seconds for the saints...

Wednesday nickname was the blades for a good 30 odd years....
Yeah about 100 years ago!!! Its an insult now!!!!
Why did Wednesday get rid of Blades for a nickname? it's the most obvious for a Sheffield team I would have thought. Oldham has the nicname 'Owls' also, who had that one first?
We were called blades because we were formed before you lot and it was formed by a group of cutlery makers. When we moved to Hillsborough (which was called Owlerton back then) we changed our nickname to Owls. When united were formed you took the nickname of blades.
We were called wednesday because originally we were a cricket club who's players formed a football club to keep fit during winter and the only day they could train was on a wednesday which was their day off.
Now, this is a sore point, Hillsborough stadium was built on a pig farm and our nickname after blades and before owls was the pigs. Which is where all the banter comes from. I've got a really old newspaper cutting of a match report where the reporter calls us by our nickname of "the pigs". He says: When "the pigs" came running onto the pitch the noise of the crowd grunting was deafening". Apparently all the wednesdayites used to grunt when the team came out.
Ofcourse these days the only pigs to be found in the city are in butchers shops and down the lane!!!!!!!!
Well I will ignore the last sentence in your post, but please tell me you are not taking the michael on that:confused: If that's really true is there any way you can scan the paper cutting or know any links to it. I have a friend who I always argue with about nicknames.
Sorry mate i'll have to work out how to scan a picture! Me crap wid computers! Der!

There'll be nearly 8000 wednesdayites at Barnsley in a few weeks. What a bloody following. Can you imagine 8000 wednesdayites bouncing? They might as well give us the whole stadium 'cos its obvious the dingles haven't got any fans. There's a rumour that the kop flag will make an appearance as well.
Dingles, what a laugh! I remember going to Barnsley and about 5 mins from the end a message came on the PA system "Can mr John Dingle please report to the nearest steward?" Well the whole of the Blades fans went crazy with laughter, could only happen in Barnsley!
I will explain my first message, Wednesday were once called the Blades as a number of people have already said, United were at that time called the Cutlers, I have never heard about Hillsborough being built on a pig sty and would like to see a copy of any map showing this, all the best to owldad.

it got upped from 5,600 to just under 7,000
They've given us another 700 tickets which takes the away following to just over 7600. We've got the whole stand behind the goal and half of the crap stand down the side. The robbing gets are charging 20 quid for the extra tickets. They were only 18 quid when they first went on sale.

My dad had a newspaper article like I said in the earlier post about wednesdayites who used to grunt when the teams came out at Hillsborough. When Duffman asked for it to be scanned I asked him where it was and he couldn't find it. I'm gutted! Could be alot of money! I don't know if its true or not about Hillsborough being built on a pig farm, its just a legend I think. Although Hillsborough back then was all farm land before it was urbanised so who knows?
the actuall truth is as my grandfather told me that the kop at sheff utd was in the 1920s so muddy that it was named the pig sty. hence utd named pigs.

Not true we were still the Blades for 20 odd years after the move and Utd were the cutlers.
Apparently the nickname comes from a gift to the club of a stuffed owl which was placed on display in the North Stand. We then went on to win our next 4 home matches and the nickname stuck...
Sure this was in the match day program a few matches back.

I think if you look back on the records you will find that Bramall lane used to have a pig farm just passed Sheaf House. The pig farm at Wedneday was put about by united fans.
Wednesday fans stared calling untied fans "pigs" in the mid 70's durning testimonial match Wednesday thugs had surrouned united fans on their kop. The police in turn stood in front of the united fans to protect them. The Wednesday fans chanted pigs pigs. The united fans chanted back "we've got a gun, we've got a gun. I should know - i was there.
united’s original nick-name was “The Cutlers”. They adopted Blades after we had finished with it.

i saw it on ceefax the story probly originated from the papers in scotland to be honest i cant see him going:)
carcrash 05-02-2005, 16:52 3 clubs in a season or 4 clubs in a year must be a record
cant see him going anywhere until hes proved a point at weds, think the southampton episode still godes him. crap game at barnsley but a points about as much as we deserved.
Agent Gypo 06-02-2005, 12:53 Sturrock had talks with Dundee, but according to BBC has turned them down.
Its all a load of rubbish. Calm down people! He's just brought a new house in Sheffield, he's under contract and Allen wouldn't even listen to Dundee. Sturrock has already said that he relishes the challenge of taking Wednesday back to the top and he's already a cult hero with wednesdayites. Why would he want to jack it all in to go to a smaller club like Dundee United. Its a load of crap.
Agent Gypo 06-02-2005, 13:35 He has, according to teletext, ceefax, sky sports, bbc.co.uk/sport1 ,actually had brief talks with them. Sturrock spent 5 years as coach, 6 as a player, 2 as manager and he supports Dundee too. He's been quoted as saying he wants to return to them at some stage, but has turned the post down for now.

this is correct
He wants to finish the job at wednesday first. He'll more than likely finish his career at Dundee after becoming a legend at S6. I've heard he doesn't like the Dundee chairman anyway.
swfckoplass 07-02-2005, 10:35 any1 go 2 barnsley?
Yeah I went. I was right at the back of the stand behind the goal slap bang behind a great big pole! The game wasn't much to write home about. We cancelled each other out I think. Neither goalie had much to do all match. JP was man of the match again for me. The man is quality. Quinny had a quiet one again apart from the beautiful foul on McPhail! Speaking of which did you see him go off crying after getting all that abuse from the wednesdayites in the side stand? That made my day that!
Another draw at dingleland. Better than a loss though I reckon, we never seem to beat them at Oakwell.
swfckoplass 10-02-2005, 12:54 True, i wanted to go and i wanted 2 go 2 spireites match with the other 46 of my m8s who are going but tickets are all sold out so i might jump over turnstyles again lol.

Automatic promotion chance gone? - in my opinion, I think so.
If we go up through the playoff route I'd be delighted but it wouldn't be the worst thing ever to happen if we didn't make it.
It'd give Sturrock more time to build his own squad and make sure we made some sort of impact if we went up next season.
The idea of the fans getting on his back is a complete non-starter and I believe he'll be here for a good few years to come.
Thank you for a sensible answer to my serious question. It seems most of the owls on here only respond to jives at them or the team. Beofre you all start, I hardly see a constructive post from owls fans on blades threads.
I think this is it though, you have realised you have the right man to take charge but, can you resist not getting on his back if you don't go up? This is football and is a business at the end of the day, will they give him time? To be honest I don't think they will (they being the board and fans). Will he stay if you don't go up, he is a sort after man now.
PS about the feeder club thing, just trying to get a response out of these supposed fans;)

Depending on what you read - £23 - £27 million.
Sturrock will most definitely stay if we don't go up - he's exceptionally popular amongst the fans as we see him as our only hope both in the short and long term. Also, I suspect the board know this - they'd fight tooth and nail to keep him here.
Trust me - he's here for however long he wants to be.

Well that's a good thing then, it's going to be a long hard road back, all you need is a board that is willing to pump money in for players, ha! now that's something we don't have at utd.

Which is why they won't get McLean.
News today is that Dave Allen is willing to fund potential transfer targets of Sturrock's. Is this money a personal gift to the club or another loan which pushes the club's debt up even further? Speculate to accumulate they say - but it's a Catch 22 situation.

I think you speculate when you know it wont to you too much damage, at the minute I think it is damage limitation for you. League 1 or whatever you want to call it may not be a problem, however it is the championship and sustainability of a prem return you need the cash for.
We will just wait until you get rid of McLean when he wants more money then bring him in:rolleyes: It's the only way we work now, get used to it after a while.

Rover's new signing Lewis Guy may make the bench whereas Craig Rocastle replaces Joey O'Brien who has returned to Bolton after his great loan spell with the Owls.
My prediction 2-1 Wednesday with MacLean getting both.

I reckon Quinny should but the Drew should come on after 60mins to run at their defence and pretty much run riot.

To be fair Sturrock did tell us a few weeks ago (Green un’) that there may be some ugly football and that three points is what mattered. The nerves did jingle a bit towards the end and I wondered if the penalty miss would cost us when it got to 3:2. There was a lot of injury time……..but time does seem to drag when all you want to hear is the final whistle.
I can't believe we can even afford to miss penalties now!! ha ha :P
Well done Owls! another 3 points, another 3 goals & in 3rd place. Might have to put 3 in my lotto numbers this week!!
C'MON WEDNESDAY!
kelly_owls 12-03-2005, 22:43 How much injury time was there exactly?
Crap performance but sod that - 3 points are very welcome!!!

John Hemmingham has gone to L***s. Full story here:
http://www.owlstalk.co.uk
He's sold his soul to the devil. He's sold out totally. His band don't play at home anymore 'cos they fell out with DA now the whole world knows the real reason why he and his owls trust buddies supported Ken Bates- to further their own interests.
Of all the clubs to go to, only the blades would be a worse decision for him. Honestly, I don't know what to say.

I’ve just read the post from Nez and the article linked within it. This claims that John Hemmingham has changed allegiances to Leeds. If this is true, I agree with Naz….just how low will John Hemmingham sink……
In the article John Hemmingham says he is a football man…….
In my book “John boy” you’re a TURNCOAT.
The owls trust own 10% of the club and they say they are there to promote closer links between the board and the fans. They say they represent the fans on the board. They don't represent me one little bit, never have done. For a start the registration or joining fee whatever of the owls trust is too expensive for normal fans, I could never afford it. They never spoke for me when they protested against the board or when they supported Ken Bates.
They are rich, egotistical fans who want to make a name for themselves. They didn''t have the best interests of the club or owls fans in mind when they joined the board. Hemmingham has proved this by turning his back on Wednesday and joining his best mate Bates at L***s. They have used the trust to further their own interests, not the interests of the club.
He should never ever show his face at Hillsborough ever again, the owls trust should be disbanded and now all wednesdayites around the world should concentrate on supporting the club rather than persuing some childish vendetta against a board which, at the end of the day, are helping the club move forward at last.
good post, so what now after yesterdays draw. what chance of promotion through the play offs. peronally if we get mclean back i reckon wed do ok.
come on Tranmere! :-)

carcrash 23-03-2005, 17:01 Who is this new chief exec you lot have got. Will he be able to sort out the debt problems
How can one man sort out our debt problems? The world bank chief executives would struggle to sort out our debt problems.
i think youll find most clubs outside the top 6 in the prem have big debt pros. weds are in a bit of touble but the club is stable, look at leeds utd debts which are terrible. the owls will get top side of things eventually it just takes time. up to about 1987 swfc were one of the few british clubs to actually be in the black, times, wagesand playerschange facts as they are.
kelly_owls 30-03-2005, 20:21 If you think Saturday was bad, you should have seen us all game yesterday!!
Rocastle had a nightmare as did the majority of our squad bar Woody and Bullen.
Collins looks bloody amazing when he came on, won't be long till someone from the CCC get him though I doubt it'll be United as they only like strikers.
kelly_owls 04-04-2005, 21:18 Didn't deserve to lose on Saturday. Aranalde should never have been sent off in a million years and the free kick that led to their goal should never have been.
Best firsthalf performance I have seen at home by us in a long time. Woody, Collins, Bullen and Hecks had a stormer!!!!
From what I see and hear of your match vs the trannies, we should have had your ref. Cheating Barnsley would have been left with a 1_3_2 formation.
kelly_owls 06-04-2005, 13:22 Barnsley are a pretty dirty team, Chopra especially.
You must be pretty bad though for them to have had as many go off injured as they did.

pah! and tish and tosh! youse was outplayed by the beter team. only went ahead cos of a dodgy penalty call, and if the sending off wasn't fair, how come you lot aint appealed?
probably still see you in Cardiff. unless you bottle it of course.

:) Sturrock aint appealed as he went to the ref after the match and the ref said he wouldnt look at the tape again as he was adamant it was intentional, even though I was sat 10m max away from it. Bit funny how no Tranmere players at all ran to the ref after the challenge!!!

Come on Wednesday!! i agree, if we play like we did then for the rest of the season, we will have no problems getting to the CCC.
tom_a_west 12-04-2005, 01:18 What are peoples predictions on how wednesday will finish this season.
I am a lifelong Wed fan and think that they will make it to cardiff, but I am not confident that they will win, however, I think that Sturrock has done an amazing job and that I am very hopeful that we will only see one more year in league 1, but only if Sturrock stays.
A.B.Yaffle 12-04-2005, 01:25 I think Wednesday will make it to the play-offs, but whether or not they will get to the final depends who they get drawn up against. I think Tranmere will be the team from the play-offs to go up to the Championship. (Which is a shame, because as a Blade I would love to see United thrash Wednesday twice next season!)
Use the wednesday chat thread to talk about the other team in sheffield please :D
Ousetunes 12-04-2005, 09:36 I'm a Unitedite and don't quite think Wendy will make it this season. But credit where it's due, Sturrock seems to have stopped the rot at the club. Add to that, the fact that Mr Nice-Himself Ken Bates is now upsetting fans at Elland Road and I think Wednesday fans can look forward to a decent season come August.
As for the Blades - and I predicted a league position similar to last season - I hope we make the play-offs but feel our good form might just have come too late. I feel a very potential banana skin tonight at Forest.
Maybe both Sheffield teams will have to wait another season?
Agent Gypo 12-04-2005, 11:41 If United don't get promotion, I'd like to see Wednesday promoted. Some good derby games to look forwards to...
Unfortunately, I don't think Wednesday will make it this year.
I hope both Sheffield teams get promoted it would be good for the city & we deserve some luck after being out of the big time for so long.UP THE BLADES
Call me a pr@tt if you want but i don't care if its good for the city- i want wednesday to do terribly every season and get relegated again and again.
And im sure some wednesday fans would say the same.
tom_a_west 12-04-2005, 16:28 ok, u are a pr@t. I dont mind united and wednesday doing well. I watched the match against arsenal and thought that u were robbed. However I dont think that united will mak it into the playoffs and the tranmere will prob win the playoffs in our division.
Wednesday all the way

Yes your right, your not only a prat but I can think of a few other words to describe you as well. I personally couldn't care less about United at the minute. Your results don't affect us one little bit. Although I would like to see both clubs in the premiership one day.
As for wednesday going up this season I personally don't think it'll happen i'm afraid. I think we'll make it to Cardiff which will reward the fans for the massive support we've given them this season but I don't think we'll win the final. We've been hit really hard by injuries these past few weeks and I think its a step too far for promotion this season,
It won't do any harm not to go up this season, we'll not lose anything. A full pre- season and season under Sturrock will do us good I think. It'll enable us to strengthen the squad during the summer and hopefully get the injured players fit again.
When the whole squad is fit and with maybe a new centre half, midfielder and striker during the summer just think how strong we'll be next season. Consolidate this season and go for automatic promotion next season.
canadablade 13-04-2005, 02:12 Why would Wednes*ay wanna go up to go straight back down ...They look to me like they cant handle the pressure and are CHOKING ...I predict a 7th place finish and watching the play-offs on the telly...
Blades have a massive 6 pointer on Friday night, If we lose that then cant see us making the play-offs .. Got my money saved up just incase i have to make the flight over to cheer the lads on though ..
Worked a treat last time coming over to see us paste the Piggies 3-1 ...
Makes me laugh at wen*yites going on all the time about being a BIG CLUB , you have the Man City syndrome GET OVER IT, You are now a mediorce 2nd division team, millions in debt and have many more years of mediocraty...Swings and roundabouts as a Pig m8 once told me and for now the Blades are the top team in Sheffield and Yorkshire so we can boast all we want ..Come back in 20 odd years for your turn ..LOL
Regards Canada Blade
I think Wednesday are going to struggle to make the play offs. They still have Hull and Hartlepool to play. They really could do with getting someting out of those games.

Have to agree with ya about Wendy..Not easy for the Blades either and if it comes down to the Wolves away match then we might miss out as well...
If we stay down and wednesd*y do by a miracle mange to go up we will welcome the 6 points

but my point is the owls have never had the pleasure of visiting the heights of divison 4 and as for it was 20 years ago the owls got relegated to the 2nd in1990 thats 15 years maybe you shouldnt live in the past either
its a pity that a good owls thread has to be ruined by a few bitter blades i actually thought they would be more worried about their own club
tom_a_west 15-04-2005, 23:58 well.
After tonights results, I have to say that it will be a worrying day tomorrow. I now think that the unthinkable will happen and we wont even make it into the playoffs.
As for United, That result has just given them a really hard knock and I dont think that they'll recover from it either
Well looks like both Sheffield clubs have got the jitters,I hope the Owls make it through the playoffs ,they are missing Mclean & Utd what can I say our midfield,if we had one ,were a disgrace no quality at all except for Quinn ,we always play like this when Tongy is out of the team. But best of luck to both teams but the Owls look a little better off with the points.UP THE BLADES
craigmason 16-04-2005, 13:32 going on recent form 3-0 loss at Hartlepool i cannot see them going up this year which is a shame because they shouldn't be in this division in the first place they should be in the championship let hope that sturrock can rally the players to get them up there this season
Read this thread

theres a major incentive to get a party atmosphere there and to get the ground full, including facepaints, fancy dress and beach balls.
But most importantly to sing your hearts out and to get behind the lads and push us into the play-offs. so i urge anyone on here to get the hillsborough on Saturday
Internetowl 16-04-2005, 19:18 these are the same tossers who were pushing 'black balloons' last season - lot of good that brought to the club eh?
Sturrock doesn't think the squad is ready for the playoffs(he's right) - recent results have proved that...no point flogging a dead horse is there?
Its not a case of being negative. I agree with Sturrock, the squad isn't ready for the play-offs. We need a full season under Sturrock to consolidate in league 1 and push for the automatic places next season when all the players are back during the summer.
tom_a_west 19-04-2005, 22:05 well i am really worried about chris turner's return and think that we have no chance if we fail to get all three points. Overall I thonk that it is a ridiculous situation as only 2 months ago we were a dead cert for the playoffs and had a chance (be it small) but now we will be lucky to re-enter them
Still, look foreward to next season everyone
MissGobby 20-04-2005, 12:43 So any of you think we will not make it to the playoffs this year? i cant belive we are about 2 points behind, we have been doing so well, if we dont make it this year i am sure that we will make it next year, Sturrock is such a brilliant manager!!!
jakey8ball 20-04-2005, 15:28 We will make the playoffs - just.
I reckon the bristol city game will be crucial and a great day to remeber at Hillsborough.
Just on the off-chance; Does anyone have or know anyone that has the very old (poss.1988?) away shirt that was green/white hoops!?? I love it and must have it!
Cheers
it would still be much better to go up this season, remember when we came down we thought it would be a blessing in disguise - really wrong
this is just the fans way to back the team and give them an extra edge this saturday and against bristol and hull
Oh and yes it is the same people that organisated black balloon, which i never agreed with really but this time round all energies are focusing on something positive, we can make the play-offs
any armchair fans or any minor fans out there who haven't been to the match for a while, get to hillsborough on saturday, bring family and friends and get behind the lads from start to finish
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!1
lets just get behind the lads this week, and every week and stop the rot!
kelly_owls 22-04-2005, 18:56 Check on eBay dude.
As for our promotion hopes, I reckon we'd be lucky to get 5 points out of our final three games tbh.
Is Graeme Lee back tomorrow by the way??

Yodameister 23-04-2005, 16:54 I think they'll scrape into the playoffs even on current poor form.
Going to have to improve a lot to have a chance of winning them though.
I'm a Wednesdayite thru and thru and I think they will make the play offs. Having said, that the cynic in me is telling me that it's delaying the inevitable - another season of League 1. They haven't been consistant enough and they have thrown so many opportunities away to capitalise on other teams failures. I do hope I'm wrong though!
kelly_owls 23-04-2005, 17:42 Well we were all over em, but we couldn't score!!
Was incredible when all the balloons were let off and everyone was singing.
Can't wait until I go to Hull next week, now that will be one hell of an atmosphere.
kelly_owls 24-04-2005, 12:05 I won't be too bothered if we miss out on them as the prospect of all those close matches next season is mouth watering and I reckon we'll go up next season anyway, and be a better team for it.

I think SWFC's chances are better than slim.
The last w/e promises to be a cracker (and almost wholly decisive).... with something like 8 of the current top 9 sides playing each other.
Only worry is that Hull have got nothing to play for (let's hope they remember that today!).
nickswfc 30-04-2005, 09:54 we probably romp the league next year but i'd still much rather go up now
