No you wont need word. You need to be more specific thought - is it just for friends and family say xmas snaps, or for a business you have? you can pay for sites to be made professionally or there are ones you can do on your own very simply. Google 'free websites' and it will come up with loads of providers who offer free webspace

well to do a more proffesional site it takes a lot of experience, knowledge and practice.

you can do it yourself and practice by using notepad and learning html
or using a program like microsoft frontpage or dreamweaver (i learnt using dreamweaver) none of those are free tho
theres also web designer notepad type programs with extra features.
also theres tons of html beginners guides, help out there

depends how much you want to pay and how much time you have. as melthebell says to do something more professional you would need to spend quite a lot of time on it and know html codes

You can do something like this for free, and it is dead easy. The only trouble is that you are limited to five pages and you have to go on at least once a month.

If you like it you can register here.

You could try 110mb (http://www.110mb.com/): it's free, gives 2GB of webspace, and 100GB/month bandwith. Have to pay for extras like MySQL though if you need that.

NVU (http://www.nvu.com/index.php) is a free alternative to Dreamweaver, and not bad for beginners to start on.
