I think these lads are great, know a couple since they were babes and have latest DVD with some great, clean, catchy rap tunes on.

fox20thc 20-08-2007, 16:48 I saw them on MTV or something similar so had to find out who they are.. seems like they really have their heads on straight

Earlmeerkat 20-08-2007, 17:27 They are singing meerkat... singing.. dearheart.. do keep up. :) They are rapping which is a form of speech, not song! Don't let their good intentions fool you their music isn't that good

I disagree. I saw them in Firth Park and they were great. Really enjoyable.

Thats your opinion, I believe they have interested a few big bods of rap in America. Oh and l also remember them being No 3 in Urban Charts few months ago, last year were on CD UK.......shall I go on.
They are some of the most decent, polite, well brought up young men I know. Dont forget what you seen when they are performing is an image, its part of industry to be seen as bad boyz.
"Good intentions" you say. I personally dont see alot wrong with wanting to better yourself, achieve ambitions and provide for your family.
Soz lads, hope I havent ruined ya cred, LOL :D

Hear Hear!! Before performing in Firth Park the lads came around and gave CDs to people in the crowd, I asked "how much?" "nothing m'aam it is free" came the reply. They were very polite and they talked about being good and god fearing before performing. They talked about the benefits of hard work and respecting your commnity. From some of the posts in this forum I would venture to suggest that this sentiment needs to be spread to certain youngsters in Sheffield. So maybe Noxcuse should be paid to perform in all Shefield schools and spread their message.
I would be more than happy to have them all around for tea.

dj4321gsr 20-08-2007, 20:56 You guys are a credit to Sheffield, keep up the good work and forget the haters. Unfortunately Sheffield will always be full of some haters because there are a lot of losers that live here and do not allow progress to to come through. RESPECT

Im very close to 40 also and although Im not greatest fan of Rap, but these lads have something! probably a bit of charisma, stage presence what ever, Robbie Williams not the greatest voice in the world but what an entertainer!!
Anyway they are a group of young men who done good from Sheffield, if thats not enough reason to support them, nuff said!
Its about time noXcuse got some credit for what they do, they've been working hard for years. They do everything themselves; music production, lyrics, raising money for video shoots, putting out singles/ mixtapes, scouting connections (distribution, record labels etc...) EVERYTHING, changing music for the better. You can't call 99% of the crap that gets released these days music, noXcuse make REAL music. If u have only heard a couple of tracks then i don't think you can even comment on their music, it's not just one genre, check out the mixtape on their website.
Mini_Cooper 23-08-2007, 16:26 R n B rap - crap

OMG that is soo funny! "2 phones (ferns) like a drug dealer!"
What aload of toss. They are yorkshire american wannabe's with gun style hand movements.
This sort of music is loved by chavs.

Your missing the point, its not about your taste in music, Im not much of a rap fan myself but i have to admire these young men for getting off their back sides and doing something for themselves, which, as it happens also gives enjoyment to those who CHOOSE to listen to their music.
I feel the people who are critical are probably in quite mundane jobs/lives or just resentful of anyone who might have some get up and go to do more.
The people with a moderate level of intelligence on here realise its about supporting a Sheffield Group whatever their genre of music.
johnbradley 24-08-2007, 07:43 videos and music have high production values...the lyrical delivery is mostly alright, and at least, as people have said, the lads are getting off their arses and doing it.

It's not my usual thing musically, but they've done a really good job there and turned out a nice piece of work.
As they say on the street - respect!
None too shabby that !! beats the hell out of that plonker sheffrapper :D:D good luck to em, lets just hope that if they make the money that big rap stars do they wont turn into crutch grabbing gun toting crack heads :D:D
anyone who gets to know them can be certain that will never happen trust me!!
Good luck to them! At least they are not hanging round street corners making a nuisance of themselves - they are doing something they enjoy and is constructive.
shinyhappy68 24-08-2007, 21:34 anyone who gets to know them can be certain that will never happen trust me!!

What is the point of rap......most rappers are deluded about their ability......remember that sad idiot that was on X-Factor......thought he WAS Eminem......he was from Sheffield....and a complete embarrassment......where is HE now????
Rapping to me is not only about the words, its about the culture....its a package deal.....and I don't get any of it.

Most people that appear on X factor are an embarrassment and the ratio of singers to rappers must be something 100:1 all of them deluded. Personally I feel that rap needs to be experienced live for you to really feel it.
Rap is modern day poetry. Shakespeare wrote in rhymes and is an icon for many who like to rap. You never heard boys talking about complex and simple rhyming schemes before. Assonance and alliteration will also be discussed. Language is a living thing and constantly evolving rap is part of that evolution. I for one love the English language and am pleased that boys are taking such an interest.

Thank you for pointing this out. It seems to me that after 25 years of hip hop, some people on this forum still lack the ability of understanding what rap music is really all about. It seems so many of us still do not understand the appreciation of culture either, hence so many people judge people by image and not by the content of character, talent or lyrics.
I don't really like rock but I appreciate that the musicians and singers have talent and the music is pumping. Too many haters on here that have nothing constructive to say.
As for Noxcuse, I give these guys 11/10 for work ethics. They try really hard and are doing something constructive and representing Sheffield. I really hope they get what they deserve. Keep up the good work guys.
Rap is crap
never heard such verbal diorrhea

Well your opinion is valid as it is yours.
The term wannabe's is usually used by people that have no idea or concept. Are you that educated to know if there american or not. I know a lot of them have Jamaican / caribbean roots so it is quite close to afro american. Your term yorkshire american should be replaced by yorkshire jamaican, which would make your comment of "wannabe's" unvalid and wrong!!
This sort of music is loved by people of all races, cultures and classes, rich and poor, snobs and chavs. It is the biggest selling music on the planet!!!!!
completely true, also the reason some of them may have a slight american accent is not because they are wannabe's but because they grew up in the late 80's/ early 90's listening to old school hip hop which was completely dominated by american artists. some people just enjoy hating on other people without bothering to find out anything about them first, or maybe its just sour grapes!!

Yep, I think those grapes are leaving very sour taste in mouth. Bitterness will eat ya up in the end, should take a chill pill and hang out with some rappers for a day, learn to live a little!! :hihi::hihi:
Victor Meldrew springs to mind :D X

May I also add that Hip Hop came about as a reaction to violence and actually served to dramatically reduce the levels of violence in the ghettos of the USA. Yes sure there were still elements of violence left but it is very hard to completely eliminate it. My experience of Hip Hop and rap is that it brings young people together (and a few old uns as well), makes them think about language and how it is used and has acted as a unifying force. For me Noxcuse personify this view.
When I saw Noxcuse perform a point was made to us by Johnny P (from Trouble TV) that when we support local talent and buy their product we are putting our money back into our own community and not sending it to the USA or other parts of the country.
So what I would say to people on the forum is if you don't understand it don't criticize it. Something is not automatically rubbish because you don't understand it. Give these kids the support they deserve.
Before I get jumped on I am a 53 year old who has been into music of all genres all my life. You are as likely to see me at the opera as at a hip hop gig. I am actively supporting local talent in the best way I can basically by going to see it and taking my son along where possible.
Now I must get back to writing my blog reviewing BOM Fest on myspace and writing some words of encouragement to the acts I liked.

There's a lot of ignorance in this thread. Rap originally brought communities together and gave positive messages to its youth. Like anything it has been bastardised and broken up by sub-genre.
Dont lump in 'Rap' with 'Gangsta-Rap'. Granted most American pop-rap is about making-that-dough and living the American dream but there are sooo many rappers past and present with positive messages. If you LISTEN the lyrics of some artists rather than just HEAR it you'll soon understand.
For positive influences in rap check out;
Jurassic 5, Rakim, Talib Kweli, Nas etc.
dj4321gsr 26-08-2007, 13:50 Judging buy the anti hip hop threads on here, some of these backward. ignorant forumers on here probably think Talib Kweli is a new Indian Deli on West Street.
Green Web 26-08-2007, 13:51 How terrible it must be if this is the only way out of the 'ghetto' for the yoof of today. It's silly specimens like these what give hip hop a bad name. (bad not meaning good)

I am not quite following your argument???? Silly specimens like who? Noxcuse or those of us in the forum who know and understand Hip Hop music and culture?
This is unfortunately the only way out of the Ghetto for many, when I left school everyone leaving school would get a job of some sort. That simply is not the case now. Better Hip Hop than religious fundamentalism I say.

Noxcuse of course, and it's not a ghetto though is it? They have a chip on their shoulder and try make out not having all the latest gear means somehow you're from a ghetto, they aspire to the so called glamour of being a gangstar by calling where they live a ghetto, when this is done by a few divvy chavs vandalism and making peoples lives a misery.

evdently you heven't even listened to their music, maybe you've been listening to roll deep or all out crew and decided to lump noXcuse in the same catagory. you are a prime example of an ignorant moron. how would you know what they are thinking when they write their lyrics when you don't even know their lyrics. also could you please explain how you came to the conclusion that they have a chip on their shoulder?

Where did all that come from? What you have written there has no bearing on any of the lyrics I have listened to.
So sorry Green Web I still have no idea what you are talking about.
It sound to me like you are the one with a chip or an axe to grind. What is the problem? Have you been terrorised by teenagers or something similar?
Why do we need some rap to put any messages across anyway?
Why do we need some rap to put any messages across anyway?
I will answer your question with a question; Why do we need poetry, literature or indeed music?
dj4321gsr 27-08-2007, 12:05 Are you a dj by any chance who plays Crap, i mean Rap music?
Well derrrrrr!!!!!!!:loopy:
By the way I play all types of music, from house, to hip hop to soul to funk to punk. Who is the bigger fool?
The fool or the fool that goes on threads disses things he/she does not understand!!!!!!!
dj4321gsr 27-08-2007, 12:11 I will answer your question with a question; Why do we need poetry, literature or indeed music?
Sorry Deerobe, this is meant to answer Matty who clearly does need education.
Because people like yourself, (no offense Matty) do not understand certain things in life what goes on. I suggest Public Enemy LP (It Takes a Nation of Millions) If not musically, lyrically you might learn something that would never be necessary taught in schools.
If you ever did English Lit, poetry has always been about expression; (Shakespeare comes to mind!!!!!)
Music has been with us since the beginning of time......
It puzzles me, why would you be interested in voicing a an opinion on a music thread, as it seems to me your not in to either literature or music

Old saying:
Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
NEKRO138 27-08-2007, 17:05 There's some decent hip hop acts in South Yorkshire, and it's good to see. No one's mentioned Hoodz Underground yet, they're pretty good too. Heard a bloke called Yezza who was pretty good too.
May it continue and improve.

He's in Burger King at Centretainment, sweeping up, not even good enough to flip a burger!
Anyway back to the topic, young Danny used to live round the corner from us. Nice lad, parents are sound, his mums a teacher, his dads a top dude. He may give out a tough guy image but thats all it is, an image.

Yes I am a fan of both Hoodz and Yezza also look out for Vex One and Nem. Yezza and Vex One performed together at BOM Fest on Saturday. I really enjoyed it. Very lively and entertaining and not a gun or gangster in sight!
wow, all this heat on some people that are trying to make it in a hard world.
why not just support the local music or artists or anyone from the region? sheffield peeps or even yorkshire people are so quick to judge sometimes because its different or they might not like it, if you dont like it then cool, and also if you have a point to put forward then back it up.
these guys and hoodz are doing a great job at representing sheff and we should give them props for it!!!!

Hallelujah, amen brother:headbang:
saw noxcuse at urban smackdown at the Forum few years back, they had an element of grime then, they were the best performance out of everyone which included more established and experienced people in the field. Hadn't heard anything from them since until a few weeks ago i noticed their video is now on Channel U 360 on sky. requested it and liked it, look forward to hearing more in the future.. they puttin any shows on because sheffield is completely dead for hip hop and the more people doing stuff the better.

So true. I will never in my whole life understand people who criticize other people for trying to make something of themselves and provide for their family. Those negative people clearly have no idea of the struggle noXcuse AND their families have gone through and continue to go through, otherwise maybe they would stop hating for no apparent reason and give them the support they deserve. London is supporting London musicians, maybe if we all did they same up north our city and its musicians would get the recognition they deserve!!
And forget about So Solid Crew. Relatively unknown rapper, Stig of the Dump from Newcastle, slaughtered Asher D in a live battle.
Was that the guy who said; "Metaphor, metaphor...you meta-four-foot-tall"?
If so yeah he killed him and it was hilarious.

You know everyone Deerobe! You dark horse LOL:hihi::wink:
I'm well travelled, well educated and well up for it! LOL.
I love Hip Hop, when I lived in London I used to go to the Deal Real record shop in Soho on a Friday evening. Saw and met loads of people there. Including Skinnyman, Klashnekov, Rippah, Pharoah Monch, Rodney P, Skitz, DJ Snips, Lowkey, Mos Def and many others. Great Scene. It is about the only thing I miss having moved to Sheffield.
Used to chat online a lot with a number of leser known Rappers and Stig was one of them. Also used to chat with NOZ from Manchester's Pedigree Chumps, Reggimental from Birmingham, Apocraphe from Leicester and many others.
I am really heavily into music of all genres, opera, classical, rock, jazz, blues you name it I will listen to it.

Because people like yourself, (no offense Matty) do not understand certain things in life what goes on. I suggest Public Enemy LP (It Takes a Nation of Millions) If not musically, lyrically you might learn something that would never be necessary taught in schools.
Word!!! !!!!
the brand new mixtape can now be bought from ebay, only a fiver!!

BorderReiver 19-10-2007, 20:01 ha ha so intelligent are you. Gareth (manufactured pop crap) Gates is your high level of entertainment. Next time spell it properly. Seems like R&B and rap is very popular, biggest selling music world wide. Seems like some people like it.:hihi:
By the way i am close to 40
Well you ought to have a more discerning taste at your age :hihi:
Rap is just street "music" by the musically ungifted :gag:

For your information, I love music period. Jazz, R&B, House, Hip Hop, generally black dance music. You my friend exposed yourself by spouting about your devout love for Gareth "pop idol" Gates.
I love Enya. Now to compare the two. Enya has her unique own style that is second to none. Gareth Gates has..........well what does he has. You tell me. Your pinnacle icon is Gareth Gates and you dare to challenge my musical taste. A guy that is on a downward spiral.:loopy::gag:
Rap is from the streets which has grown to become the biggest seller in the world right now.
So you are saying Cab Calloway, James Brown. Probably the earliest rappers are musically ungifted.
Nas, is now compared in the music industry to a modern day Shakesphere, by the leading tabloids.
Common, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Krs 1 are brilliant lyracists.
By the way, the last thing you want to do is get into a music debate with me, you will be twisted and stubbed.:hihi::hihi:

Rotherhamer 20-10-2007, 23:38 Bring back 70's Glam Rock
funkyMoi 21-10-2007, 01:49 Whatever the case maybe - whether they got a good message or good rappers.....their character stinks. That's one big problem with some rappers.
They'll have music right, message right but then you suddenly get to check them out in real life, and in certain situations, whether women, whether business, and find - they like people who say one thing but do something opposite totally to what they're singing about.
So even the "yeah, revolution!" Or "do the right thing" ain't what you see in their life and find this is also a commercial way of making monies and making "its all real" as another way of making money.
You either rap whatyou do or you're gonna get found out.
And yes, they have talent but real Hip Hop ain't only about that. I'm into Immortal Technique. He lives what he says.
Well you ought to have a more discerning taste at your age :hihi:
Rap is just street "music" by the musically ungifted :gag:
I second that.
Well derrrrrr!!!!!!!:loopy:
By the way I play all types of music, from house, to hip hop to soul to funk to punk. Who is the bigger fool?
The fool or the fool that goes on threads disses things he/she does not understand!!!!!!!
Why would anyone want to listen to someone like 2pac or these rap artist in sheffield? Anyone can talk down a mic like the bloke from the streets:rolleyes:
You're a 40 year old man saying 'disses' explain to me why you think i don't understand Crap/rap music.

dj4321gsr 22-10-2007, 18:31 just cos you started hip hop it doesnt mean its yours we helped evolve hip hop through a mainly black music and a mainly white graffiti scene, so it aint black music my cousin.
What chipped up planet are you from.
Where have I started hip hop. Why are you starting this thread into a black and white thread.
Firstly let me point out at Hip Hop started in the Bronx (Kool DJ Herc is black and Jamaican)
The djs that created the plain for Hip Hop were Grandmixer Theodore, Flash, Dst, Jellybean (Hispanic / mixed)
And the grand finale Fab Five Freddy was a legendary graffiti artist (black) however there were also Phase 2 (hispanic)
The grafitti seen had black / hispanic and white people but the white people were a small minority.
Incidently if you was educated Puerto Rican (hispanic) do not class themselves as caucasian. They have there own culture which is very mixed. So if you are coming on here spouting hip hop is white music forget it. Thats bull and you know it.
When I mentioned black dance music I did not throw the race issue as means of points scoring but as an identity, just like 1xtra the home for black music. Maybe you need to talk to the directors at 1xtra because thats what your implying.
You need to learn about hip hop before coming on here spouting race issues. Next you will be saying white people started break dancing and body popping. The fact of the matter is; it was made famous from the streets of New York and Blacks and Hispanics were at the fore front. Unlike disco which had a lot of white influence, but then again it originated from funk as white radio did not want it because it was too black....
DO YOU UNDERSTAND YET> YA DIG>>>> SHO NUFF>>>>>:loopy:
dj4321gsr 23-10-2007, 00:41 For the record, Sheffields most famous and original grafiti artist happens to be black. If you was around in 86 then you would know and would not spout your stupid comment......
Fishcake 08-01-2008, 15:47 Oh yeah check out TDF as well as Bulletz, Lil Proof, Jester and Racombe
For those disengaged with the popular culture of young people who are the foundations of our growth in todays society, take a moment to thnk about what you are specialised in, or what you enjoy in life and reflect on what you would feel like if people had misconceptions about you!
Maybe take a look at Article 12 and 13 from the UN (meaning United Nations) Convention on the rights of a child.

Have you never heard Roxanne Shante - 'The educated Rapper'.........??
