View Full Version : Taxi hit my car then drove off!

Late last night my wife and her friend were driving my battered escort back home. They had stopped at that big roundabout near the big waitrose when a car slammed into the back of them.

They pulled off into a car-park to inspect the damage but the car which looked like a taxi sped off before they could get the number plate or taxi number.

Now there's a lovely big dent in my back bumper and in the bottom of the hatch.

Unfortunately my wife and her friends were too shocked to do anything about it. I said they should have called the police as driving away from the scene of an accident is an offence, but they said that since they didn't get a good look at the car that wouldn't work.

Of course there's CCTV in that area, so I think they should have reported it.

It's just annoying that someone would just run off like that, plus I'm going to be getting rid of the car soon (I have a newer car, but it's off of the road at the moment) so another thing wrong with it will make it even harder to get rid of.

The best thing to do is contact the Police with the exact time of the crash & the whereabouts & if it's on cctv then they will have the S.O.B. The main thing is that they did not get seriously hurt.Good luck for the New Year

There is a traffic camera on that roundabout but you'll be lucky if they saw anything useful to you - CCTV tends to be pretty much useless.

It's not the vehicle involved in the hit and run near The Earl, is it?

Not if it was a taxi

If it turns out it was a taxi, make sure Taxi Licensing at the Town Hall are informed.

If your wife was injured she can make a claim for injury under the Motor Insurers Beaureu Untraced Driver Scheme.

No you wouldnt! Which solicitors have you been talking to??? It costs absolutely nothing to make a claim, or it shouldnt do. The car damage excess is nothing to do with the personal injury claim.

they would have to be injured though, and it doesn't sound like they were.

That much is true, which is why I started my first post on this thread with the word "if" ;)
