http://www.euobserver.com/index.phtml?aid=12401  Well this is probably the first time I've ever agreed with the US:

The hunting of Whales is a heinous and barbaric act, Iceland deserves these sanctions

Should hunting for whales be banned (daft question yes it should)?

A report I saw suggested that it was just a one off for research purposes. As for any blind hatred for Bush/America, it's wasted. I am more concerned with what Blair is doing here to worry about Bush.

The 'research' here involves killing up to 30 whales from different species to inspect the contents of their stomachs. The excuse is that they want to see what effect whales have on the fish stocks. Oh, and then to cover their costs they'll sell the whale meat. Bear in mind that you can't just kill a whale with a single shot and it can take up to 4 hours to die it's seems a tad barbaric for the 21st century.

Hey Licky, I'm impressed. You've managed to bring out your true blue anti-labour feelings in an otherwise non-political thread. What single minded dedication you do have.

lol, Maxt. You are as predictable as a wasp on speed. True Blue? Maxt, I have always been a labour supporter. Lost faith in Nulabour, they've conned me and many others with their spin. These days I am becoming more apolitical. It so happens that New Labour are in power, but no matter who it was they would still get analysed just the same. My campaign against Blair and his rabble will NEVER end.

Never try to deflect me, it won't work.

I can see the frailties even if you can't

If you need to take the **** because I hate your hero....go ahead. Make yourself look stupid. If you like Blair, say so, don't abuse me because I don't. You are entitled to your opinion, leave me to mine.

You just can't take a hint can you? Stay on thread and leave your meanderings to more suitable arenas. fyi I'm no fan of TB and would be more than happy to see new labour re-positioned.

Maxt, I did stay on thread, I just picked up on Jon been Anti American in his first line and other than that I stated the facts I heard on a News broadcast, there wasn't any real need for you to 'butt in' were there? but you couldn't resist an attempted dig could you?

I am against the killing of Whales, and also, the suffering involved, yes ALL suffering AND killing on this planet, so, what can we do about it? PROTEST, make your voice heard, shout from the rooftops, until we get it stopped.

IIRC arent they just killing 30 from *ONE* varient of whale, of which there are around 50,000 around icelandic waters.

if they stick to that id say i dont mind (if they dont, im against it) as its in the interests of us anyway (cod levels etc) plus imagine if protesters stopped people like einstien or newton from scientific research.. most people wont be happy until we are back in mud huts and living on a "flat" earth

oh and stop arguing about governments, its not what people want to read in EVERY thread ;/

This is not scientific research but rather a backdoor attempt to start commercial whaling again. It's just the whales' unfortunate appetite for the same food as humanity that enables Iceland to use the excuse of scientific research. Surely just looking at the depleted stocks of cod would produce the same information as they say they are trying to glean?

Is this planet so small that we need to kill anything which competes for one of our food sources?

we dont know its a backdoor attempt at all.

its what the "anti-everything" brigade are saying

Not strictly true. It's also been condemned by virtually every government except Japan. Odd that.

I am lucky to live in an area where the migration of whales up and down the coast can be seen, naturally, twice a year. In qld, there is a great interest in this, and whale watching fever grabs the media and population. Watching from land is fine, and the Government has put a three nautical mile embargo on whale watching boats. Mind you, years back, Australia was a whaling country.
