Hi

I am asking on behalf of my parents who live in at the top of ther hill who have just purchased a freeview box.

Prior to getting freeview C5 can be obtained easily and is probably the best of the 5 on anologue. When the freeview box loaded it did not find BBC4 or C5. Also sometimes ITV 1,2&3 do not work as well as SKY News, SKY Travel e.t.c. Also when loading BBCi when watching the news for online video this option does not work?. Sometimes the ITV chanels come back (usually late at night)

Any ideas?, is it a reception prob or box prob??

Thanks

Phone a local aerial specialist. They usually already know the 'blind spots' off the top of their heads, or would be able to diagnose the most likely problem from the symptoms you describe

Could be a dodgy connection on the cable, or an old unsuitable aerial, or something inbetween the aerial and transmitter affecting reception.

If you do want to call someone I can recommend getting in touch with Bill Wright, he knows his stuff! http://www.wrightsaerials.tv/

We bought someone a Freeview box for Christmas and decided to test it on our tv as we were thinking of getting Freeview ourselves. The reception was perfect on all channels.

So yesterday we went and bought ourselves exactly the same box. But now we can get good reception on all channels except the BBC ones. They are jumpy and scrambled and the signal strength bar that it shows you is lower than for all other channels. Why is this? I can't see it being the aerial as the reception was fine when we tried it out before christmas. We've tried reinstalling and retuning the box a number of times with no luck

In view of the recent bad weather I would have thought it could be a problem with the transmitter. We have sky and have been getting some scrambling on their channels too if that's of any help - particularly ITV2. We seem to get it whenever the weather is like that and it seems to affect the terrestial channels the worst!

Don't know if this helps - just a thought!

Thanks wendy, I did think of the bad weather being a cause. Last night it improved, it was watchable, but this morning it is worse than ever. There is no picture at all now, the signal bar is too low and we only get a black screen. It only is a problem on the BBC channels. No BBC News 24 :(

I took down my satalite dish and put up a pudding tin.
Unfortunatly after that i could only get Yorkshire.:hihi:

Right seriously now. BBC1 especially seems to be poor with freeview, and also when you get freeview it is not advertised that you cannot get teletext as before. I used to spend more time with teletext than watching tv but cannot now. On the upside i love the extra channels.

We have a Freeview box and still get teletext. You can either access it via one of the digital channels (forget which one) or you should still be able to pick up the analogue signal through the aerial connection when the Freeview box is switched off (or on standby).

I used to get teletext local news on ITV page 332. This is not available, BBC24 have their own version.

That will be channel 9, page 300 you want then. But digital text takes so long to load, you're probably best sticking to the analogue for that.

I like being able to read regional news from other areas on the bbc digital.

You can, you need to switch to an analogue channel on the TV first. This isn't always as easy as it should be depending on your setup.
