Hi everyone ,
i'm new to this but i've noticed that some ppl was remenising (however ya spell it) about the old REX on mansfield rd,
could anyone please put a photo link of the cinema on the forum, cos believe it it or not myself and a mate have been having a dispute,
he recons that the supermarket was there while the cinema was standing, (wrong) i told him that the cinema is in place of
the supermarket now,
i always remember the cinema stretching right up to the house nearly on mansfield rd, and there was a little walkway down the side of the house to the backdoors of the pics
(to around the back)
i would be very grateful if someone knows of where i can get a face on or clear photo of this place, just to shut this m8 of mine up, hehehe......
I remember it like yesterday and i'm sure that car park has always been there but just rubble (not tarmac) but the path was!
and it had a handrail down either side of the pics where ppl used to cue aswell as on the front of the place,

P.S
I also remember the lady that owned it too
(stern looking lady with glasses)
I also remember the sweet shop on the right hand side of the doors before you entered the pictures,
and there was also another shop that sold wool, scarves, gloves etc, on the far left hand side of the pictures.

so if someone can be of some help to put a photo link on this forum, i'd be very grateful,

Thanks
Terry Smith

I think your mate is right Terry, there was a supermarket at the side of the Rex. I can't remember the name of it, but it was certainly there before the Rex was pulled down.

>perk< the missis says it might have been Marshalls

I went to watch Pete's dragon there as a kid and sitting
on the upstairs balcony. They used to stop halfway through
for the ice cream woman to go around.

The shop next to the Rex is exactly the same as it was back in the late 70s but then it was called 'Marshalls'. The carpark walls where the teenage drunkards sit are the only brickwork left of the old Rex carpark.

I remember those round windows they used to have on the outside!!

As said before by someone the Noah's Ark has some good
pics of the Rex.

It was owned by a guy called Brian Marshall, who also had shop in somewhere like Thrybergh. He could often be seen in the Intake shop, usually serving on the meat counter. He eventually sold up, to one of the pile 'em high flog'em cheap chains, and retired.
