I want to out some stuff onto a blank DVD. i wasn't sure if I needed DVD RW plus or minus so I got both types.

After i put the discs in, the drive still says "please insert a disc"

Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong please?

what program you burning with?

with nero i chuck a disc in, open nero, click dvd or cd depending what disc it is, find files on right, drag to left and burn (altering 1 or 2 other options on the way of course)

also neros info tool tells you what discs your drive will read / burn

An obvious question, but your drive is capable of writing DVDs, isn't it..? Or, if you have 2 drives, are you selecting the correct one in the burning application?

well if its ablank and you try opening it it wont recognise it (i dont think???)

It says the drive is a CD / DVD RW drive so I'd imagine its capable

Are you sure it doesn't say DVD/CDRW?

If so it can read dvd's but only write to cds....

dvd rom / cdrw drives, the scourge of cheapy computer systems :P

Just had a look it says "DVD +- writer / CD-writer.

I've got a sneaky feeling they won't write to RW discs, only CD R or DVD R, is that right?

mine says DVD +Rewritable
and my cdwriter says compact disc rewritable

Could be where I've gone wrong then. bugger

well try ONE cdr / dvdr
they should work
