I'm having trouble with my dvd-writer/cd-rom drive. I have only used it a couple of times in the 9 months i have had my laptop, the latest being about 2-3 weeks ago. Its just suddenly stopped working! When i try to burn something onto cd it stops halfway saying there's an error. I have tried loads of different discs and different burning software but the error keeps showing up. I have updated the drivers and it says the drive is working. I am stumped, i dont have a clue what is wrong, any ideas? :help::help::help:

I had a laptop with a CDRW/DVD-ROM combo in it and the drive all of a sudden went blind to CD's but would read DVD's ?
I was told that the laser had either been knocked out of alignment or it was software issue. Anyways i formated and installed new Bios and it was the same deal. It ended up being a duff drive.
But i'd follow a few steps.
Upgrade your motherboard drivers
Upgrade your burning software or try another brand
Slow down the burn speed on the disks.

I had a similar problem recently, with Nero. It would claim to have burnt a DVD, but it would be unplayable. After too many coasters, I reinstalled firmware for the drive and switched to Burn4free (http://www.burn4free.com/). I'd suggest you give both a try (note that it's firmware, not drivers).
