We put our very full (lid shut mind!) blue bin out the night before collection day a week ago. It was still there when I got home. Left it out another day, still full, so was next doors. Moved it all of half a meter on to the drive so as not to block pavement, and went away for a long weekend.
A week passes, and on my day working from home I ring the number on the bin...
'Why are you only ringing today??' I'm asked.
well, I've been away, and I thought maybe someone else on such a long road, would have reported it.....
bla bla, apparently all my fault for not leaving it out for a week to trip up all passers by, also they don't collect from your drive, it's practically on the pavement!!
Our bit of drive is public enough for people to let their dogs poo on but not for the second collection blue bin guys to extend their arm accross.
I had to fill our car with card and paper and drive accross the city to get rid of it.
How stupid.
I needed a rant.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

Yes but practically on the pavement is not on the pavement, rules is rules...

My gripe is not the blue bin collection which I've never had an issue with (except that I normally forget to put it out :)), but the fact that the council doesn't collect any other type of recyling - glass, cans etc.

While some of us are prepared to make the effort, if the government is serious about getting us all to recycle then they need to be providing this service.

I had the same issues when the blue bins were first delivered to our area. They happily collected our bin for the first 6 months of the scheme.....which was a few years back. Our bin was standing to the left of the public footpath. It was placed about 18" from the kerbside. They... IE... the council, placed it there to start with.......and we continued to fill it very happily. After the initial 6 months our bin was not collected. The reason apparantly was that it was stood on our private land! HELLO........It was them that placed it there to start with......and it was them who collected it from that same spot for the first 6 months! I spoke to a very rude and "up her own ass" young lady, who told me that if I couldn't be bothered to place it in the correct spot then they couldn't be bothered to collect it!! In return I told her that if they couldn't be bothered to collect it then I wouldn't be bothered to fill it, and in which case I suggested that they took the blue bin away. They did this the very same day........(obviously using a truck for just this purpose!).......and they chose to empty the entire contents of my blue bin all over the footpath! Well done Sheffield City Council!
