Do all the misfits of society live in Sheffield 5,my son is a fireman and he and his colleages are continually called out to bin fires in this area to top it the idiots who start these fires wait while the fire brigade turn up and then jeer at them and provoke them.It seems that the yobs at Southey are a law to themselves so how about a bit of' grassing ' and some information about these yobs from the respectable residents of Southey to the relevant authorities before your estate goes down the pan or up in flames.

What would the police actually do with them tho?

I teach up that way, and my kids tell me that they've all got a curfew imposed by the police and they're not allowed to hang around in groups of more than two or three. Not sure this stops them misbehaving tho.

I'm not condoning these people who set fire to bins, and I'm not some weirdy beardy lefty either, but alot of these kids (not all, I'll give you) are good kids underneath it all who are really bored and get pulled along into stuff like this, and for a few, it's their way of coping with the crap they have to put up at home.

Some are just little b*****ds and this is probably the prelude to some harder crimes. But what can the police do with them?

S5 covers a large area. There are a load of 'misfits' for want of a better word, but there are a lot of normal people who are law abiding, don't tar everyone with the same brush. There is good and bad everywhere but unfortunately the bad are the ones who get the recognition.

Sentence both parents AND child to several hours unpaid community service such as litter picking and graffiti removal etc.

But the problem is catching them and proving the case against them beyond any reasonable doubt.

I think the original poster did well to not tar everyone with the same brush. The phrase used was 'do all misfits live in S5', not 'everyone in S5 is a misfit'. Just want to avoid another 'area flame war' as has been witnessed in the past :)

In answer to the question posed, no they don't. There are many types of misfit, from the down-and-outs who light fires for fun to the misguided rich kids who kll themselves with hard drugs and fast cars. None of these is pleasant, but it's a problem much wider than S5!

I live in S5, by the way (Longley estate) and I like it. There's a lot of regeneration, good local ammenities and a nice community atmosphere for the most part. Most kids who hang around outside the shops up in Southey are doing just that; hanging around.

I would like to state that I live in S5...and I am a misfit.

Well that's what they tell me at work anyway.

I don't recall anyone by that name, in fact i can hardly remember our neighbours names now, there was a lot of Pipers there, Piper Close, road, street.

My best friend then was Mary White, she lived on our street,(Close) just her and her dad lived together, they were very poor, we were far from well off but they were realy realy poor, always wondered what happend to her, hope she married someone rich.

Thanks Poppins.
Didn't realise there were so many Pipers
Just used to visit the one family. Seemed a nice quiet estate tho.
Hope Mary White made it.

I lived in Southey 83-90, on Southey Green Road, 2 doors away from doctors.

Loved it. It was rough then, but I knew most of the rough families so never had any probs.

Used to walk down Galsworthy to Herries and have good memories of my teenage life there.

I still laugh at the story of the people who bought our house. They moved up from Oxford, and on moving in day, their young lad left his bike on the front to get a drink. Went back 2 mins later and it was gone.

They'd been in Sheffield for 20 minutes when this happened! Not funny, but made me chuckle.
