Anyone know what the loud banging was at about 4 o'clock, I thought it was thunder, but seemed to go on too long for it to be thunder?

Where are you at? Heard it loud and clear in Meersbrook. Thought it was a lorry unloading outside my window till I checked and the road was clear. It did sound like thunder, that or someone dropping lots of large objects made of metal.
And the sky here has gone a mad colour too - what's that all about.

I heard it up here on Norfolk Park!. I thought it was thunder too at first:confused:

Sounded thundery to me.

Don't forget Emley Moor transmitter got hit by lightning last night, so it's not out of the question.

I'm at attercliffe & it sounded like a war in pitsmoor to me :suspect:

It's probably the experiments they are doing at Bernard Road incinerator.

I heard it to and I live near Lidl at Manor. Thought the police helicopter had landed:suspect:

Was in s1,(waiting for the aa) heard it really clearly,followed by loads of police sirens(that may have been coincidence though)it was wierd,thought we were being bombed.:confused:

The missus dropped her handbag whilst getting out of the car at 4pm. Could have been that you heard!

Someone decided to hold an impromptu fireworks display down towards Penistone Road/Hillsborough Corner way. It looked very professional given the way it was going up.

No idea who was doing it or why but that's what was happening folks...

Mmmmm my girlfriend was on penistone road while i was waiting for her to pick me up,she didnt hear a thing,the plot thickens.

Come to think of it, there was a proper racket in the air at about that time, even down here in Woodseats. Maybe aliens are taking over. Probably constitute an improvement on the current local authority...

thought it was the rugby club having a do.

My husband heard it in Greenhill although i didn't..i thought he was going daft..said he heard loads of sirens after as well.

it was a fireworks display, very pretty too, skies were just grey enough to see them clearly.

looked like it was from somewhere near the Dogs.

definitely fireworks, I could see them from lower walkley.
Out towards penistone road, in the direction of the dry slopes from where I am, out away from hillsborough, more towards neepsend.

The sky was really weird though. Like the sky was dark, but the yard was all brightly lit up and a bit orange like.

Yeah we noticed the sky too and went outside for a look. We never heard any noise though and we are right in the middle of Hillsborough too.

The sky went strangely dark, in a weird kind of way and everything was glowing orange. Strange, as the sky wasn't orange in colour itself.

i heard it and i was at work in the northern general! i thought it was our helicopter taking off or landing! Theres no way that could have been fireworks! was too loud for a start and i doubt that fireworks could be heard at the other end of the city! could someone please let us know when they know the truth!

i didnt hear owt but then again, i am half dead most of the time

i'm baffled, fella heard it (vidster) yet i was just getting off the tram by our house yet never heard a thing. i walked past our neighbour and she said 'what on earth was that bang' and i looked at her asthough she'd lost the plot!!!
i saw the funny pinky sky, thought it was going to snow. i put it down to thunder myself though as i never heard it i can't really say. the trams block out heaps of noise so i may have missed it by being on that at the crucial moment:rolleyes:

Wouldn't have thought we'd have heard fireworks from hillsborough right over here, unless a factory of 'em had gone off!
It sounded like rumbling and it was all around not way off in the distance.

you can here fireworks from don valley in hillsborough, so hearing them from hillsborough whilst at the northern general isn't that difficult.
We aren't talking about a corner shops rocket and bumper family pack here, they were professional display rockets.

A clear explanation to the cause of the noise has been given, although some people are intent on finding a more supernatural cause!! I think I'm the one going mad now :gag: Martin_s is not an alien nor does he work for the MIB ( I hope not anyway ) I think we can safely say that he is telling the truth!!

Maybe it was yet more explosions from the landfill site at the side of the ski slopes, has happended before when car batteries have exploded.

wow this is wierd 4pm and the sky has gone a funny colour again but i`ve heard no loud bangs..... yet !!!!

sheffield is built on hills is'nt it so i imagine the sound could carry quite easily?

only if they are car batteries that shoot up in the air and explode with pretty colours. And there were a lot of them all ready to go at once as well.

I'm fairly sure it was fireworks going off in Bramall Lane stadium. From my flat in Norfolk Park I've got a good view over the city. I heard the noise & thought "wow what's that?" But when I looked out of my back window there were fireworks coming up from Brammall Lane stadium. Was there a match on Wednesday? Might have been pre-game entertainment?

Yes they do, but I got me wires crossed cos I just scimmed through this 1, and what I was hearing was in the middle of the night and I know I'm not the only person who heard this!!!

I personally didn't hear a thing, but my dearly beloved did and it was definately at 4 in the morning. It woke her up with a jolt and she thought it had been a very low aircraft passing over. My location is off Middlewood road, near the Netto. So, very loud noise at four a.m. Definate

Im up at woodseats my friend and it was a strange experience.

This thread is about a loud bang at 4PM on 29th of December for DEFINATE!!!!! If you read the first post you can clearly see it was at 4.19PM. I was at home at the time and had my computer on, I heard the noise myself. :suspect:

must own up it was me with my thai girlfriend she is a right kinky :blush:

I heard it in our kitchen, next thing I know the Gas cooker has gone and there's a great hole in the ceiling.
