Hi everyone.

Looks like I have been lucky and just had an offer accepted on a house. Great Christmas present. I know its not the best time of year to be sorting this stuff as people are still on holiday but I am needing to find the following and althought I have asked around, no one seems to highly recommend anyone:

I need:

A solicitor (Taylors at Hillsborough and Taylor and Emitt (sp) Ecclesall Rd have been suggested, any comments?).

Buildings Insurance Company

Mortgage Company, what do people think of Scarborough Building Society??

Full monty homebuyers survey company?

Also, is it correct that you have to take out cover to fully pay off your mortgage upon death, or is that optional (not the policy that covers loss of job etc)?

I would prefer to stay clear of companies that have farmed out support services to people abroad unless they are fluent in english and also would be grateful of comments on companies that are totally unhelpful at renewal so I am not wasting my time there either.

I know there are quite a few questions above but I would be most grateful of any constructive comments and suggestions so I can sort this before I go back to work.

Thanks in advance.

:) xxx

Can help with conveyancing if you need anything. Not allowed to comment on other firms, as its against solicitors conduct, but if you need help, give me a shout. :)

We use Taylors in Hillsborough, they're really very good at what they do.

Give them a call.

And no, I don't work for them.

We used Anne Emmerson at Taylor & Emmet on Norfolk Row when we moved a couple of years ago!

As far as insurance is concerned I think you will find that life insurance to pay off your mortage in the event of your death is one of the conditions of your mortgage offer whether that be through your mortgage provider or another company you will have to take out this type of cover! We have ours with Abbey as with our mortgage I think they are fairly average on this price wise.

Mortgage company we have ours with Abbey National but then our previous mortgage was with then and we got a good deal because we had already paid a mortgage off with them. I would suggest that you look around.
