[/B][/QUOTE] whats ares and does it not infected ur pc like kazza igm1 30-12-2004, 08:55 It does infect your PC, but only slightly. In comparison to Kazaa not at all. Any P2P file sharing program will infect your PC. Protect it! nick2 30-12-2004, 09:08 Originally posted by IanMitchell It does infect your PC, but only slightly. In comparison to Kazaa not at all. Any P2P file sharing program will infect your PC. Protect it! It depends what you mean by "infect", P2P programs don't introduce viruses though they do need a certain amount of access to your system to operate. The best protection against viruses is to use a firewall (the XP one is fine) a good anti-virus software (AVG is good, and free) and swap to Firefox as it is much more secure than IE. I would recommend E-mule as a good P2P program. Everyone knows that downloading/uploading copywrited material (even kids songs) is illegal though, right ? igm1 30-12-2004, 09:10 Originally posted by nick2 Everyone knows that downloading/uploading copywrited material (even kids songs) is illegal though, right ? Yes it is, I'm sure everyone knows that. If they give a monkeys whether it is illegal, is another question. nick2 30-12-2004, 09:13 Originally posted by IanMitchell Yes it is, I'm sure everyone knows that. If you get viruses on your PC it is not my responsibility..... -agreed? nick2 30-12-2004, 10:10 I have used E-mule for over a year and not got any viruses that I can attribute to E-mule. Since I moved over to Firefox I haven't had any viruses at all, either that or AVG has just removed them without telling me. I would reccomend anyone to move to Firefox. FairyNormal 30-12-2004, 10:22 If I were to download stuff (obviously I wouldn't as it's illegal!!) I would use IMESH or Zazaa Lite K++. Having never downloaded anything with either, I have never had a virus or anything nasty from either (if you get my drift!!) I would certainly reccommend these two if you weren't planning on downloading anything from the net!! FairyNormal 30-12-2004, 10:23 PS I also use AVG, pop-up-stopper, Ad-aware and Zonealarm just to make sure that the stuff I don't download doesn't do anything nasty to my PC!! franc1987 30-12-2004, 10:28 i had kazaa and lost everything on my computer. ok so i dont no it was definatly that but iv got a good idea who the culprit was. I now use bear share as i have tried win mx and various others and couldnt work them! its good not had any problems yet. nick2 30-12-2004, 10:35 I heard that the Kazzaa "network" had almost dissapeared now, I think they were targetted by "the powers that be" and the servers were being shut-down. ladyovmanor 30-12-2004, 10:43 thanks alot is there any good pop up blockers that are free ??? igm1 30-12-2004, 10:44 Google toolbar is a good one, I have it and I've got 869 pop ups blocked mr craig 30-12-2004, 10:48 I use Viewpoint. Works well plus the visual bookmarks are pretty cool. mat1978 30-12-2004, 16:45 any links for these please Lurch 30-12-2004, 16:52 Originally posted by IanMitchell Google toolbar is a good one, I have it and I've got 869 pop ups blocked Ah, but how many has it missed? I used to use Google toolbar, and found it to be the best I'd used for Internet Explorer but it still let quite a few through. I haven't had one since I installed Firefox, and it's not full of bugs and wonky bits like IE. Download it from here completely for free at no cost; http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ mr craig 30-12-2004, 17:20 Originally posted by mat1978 any links for these please Viewpoint Toolbar (http://search.viewpoint.com/toolbar/download.html) Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) igm1 30-12-2004, 18:08 hmm I'm tempted to have firefox. Would it still have the favourites that I have now on IE? |
