Kev.
If you do a search on here, I am sure that you will find a thread relating to these subjects.
I know that in the year since I joined, that almost all of your questions here were covered in different threads.
I definitely remember that we had a discussion about Norton "aerodrome" a few months ago.
You might find the information you are looking for on that thread.
(If I remember correctly, someone said that it was not a true aerodrome, having planes etc based there, but that it was a training place, and had barrage balloons sited there)
Also, I remember very well when the Arnold Laver Wood-yard went up in smoke, it'd be about 1967, 0r 8 at the latest, I think. I remember watching the thick pall of black smoke as it went up. I lived on Gleadless valley at the time, and we could see it from there. Again, it is mentioned in another thread.
The bomber, the B17 that came down in Endcliffe Park, was called the "mi amigo".
If you go down the path at the back of the cafe in "Enks Park", you will find what looks like a boulder, set back, and a little "Up" from the path, with a memorial plaque on it .
There are a group of follks who do a memorial service (I think, every August) and they lay a wreath in memory. IIRC, all souls on board were lost.
There is a thread on here (again, I am not sure exactly where it is, but a search will hopefully turn up the information for you)
Hope this is of help to you?
(regarding the searchlight @ Brightside.. sorry can't help you on that, it's the same with the bus that went through the wall on Woodseats Bottom.. I can only vaguely recall it happening, though I can't recall it being mentioned on here)
