oops...this will be her first one too, wont it? deep joy.

Which reminds me, Ailsa was supposed to come into season and theres no sign- usually its about every 6 months, last one was end of jan/mid feb so she ought to be showing signs now...I can see a trip to the vets coming on, for one thing, we dont want her blobbing when we're on holiday - she will go mental if she has to stay on the lead when we are near seaside... There's something you can give your dog to delay the season, isnt there? I wouldnt normally but I would hate to be turned away from our hotel cos the dog is dripping...(only a fellow bitch owner would understand).

 Got her til next Monday, T and Eddy are coping, Takara's much better now but we've had a few spats. However, the mad charges around the field twice a day are really helping keeping them happy in the house so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! She's not very impressed with Takara's old pants though!

katkin, there is something you can give them but I'm not sure if the timing has to be just right... best off seeing if you can get to chat to a vet about it because I'm pretty certain it carries health risks too (unless that's just the 'morning after' jab...) Yes, as a fellow bitch owner I understand! I had mine spayed!!

Just think of it this way Lotti she may be more dismayed that she wasn't there for one of the biggest turning points in a bitch's life. My dog was very clingy for the one season we let her have and I personally thought it was nicer to have her done she did not like being in season one bit.

We're off to the vets with Charlie tonight so I'm planning on enquiring then, thanks.

I know, I know I shouldve had her spayed long since, if I wasnt so wussy about it I wouldve done, but after losing Raggy under the knife, Ive dreaded taking Ailsa. it's going to be bad enough booking Charlie in for the big snip...

Well, Charlie's booked in for the snip n chip on Friday and will start his vaccs after the anti biotic has worn off. Have asked about Ailsa whilst we were there - vet says if no sign of season by next week to bring madam in for the once over and there is a drug they can give her if needs be. We'll see anyhow. I wouldnt normally, but as she is going to a hotel with us (she doesnt do kennels and shes one of the family - main reason we get to go away!) we would prefer not to be turfed out of the hotel or travelodge because of blobby dog.

Didnt think you were, Lotts. It can be messy, inconvenient and stressful for the bitch to go through regular seasons. Fortunately for us, dobermutt does not retreat into a mega sulk when her hormones change - mention the word 'walkies' and she forgets she's in season. We can walk her away from other dogs during the 3 weeks she is in season and we keep her on the lead and touch wood never had an incident with another dog yet - Ailsa wont let any near her, anyway.

My Lucy is in season at the moment, it makes her even more vocal than ever... if such a thing is possible :hihi: she seems quite irregular though and thankfully seems to only be once a year, she also seems not to bleed, but then she is an old lady, she makes Durhams life a misery...i've never seen such a tart :hihi: he gets really annoyed with her (he was neutered a long time ago) i feel really sorry for her though she's tormented awww

Takara was exactly the same, wouldn't let a dog near her. In fact, if she was due in and a male dog looked at her it sparked a row!

Lottie's a total tart though (sorry Gem, but she is!) so it's no walkies for her - at least we've got a big enough yard for her to have a run around in and Takara is playing with her now so she doesn't really care at all! Takara would go spare if I didn't walk her, but Lottie doesn't care...

normally Ailsa is regular as clockwork but this time she's late and of course sod's law says she'll start the day we travel to cornwall (if I ever get it booked). Anyway, for my own peace of mind she'l be taking a trip to the vets to check her over next week. Last night, the vet asked if there was any chance shed been accidentally mated - perish the thought No, not a chance, phew!

Incidentally, whilst we were waiting the receptionist mentioned that they were running late because one of the vets had been involved in an emergency cesarian - a bull mastiff had just given birth to 14 puppies - aww! Far as we know, all pups were doing well. Crikey, imagine that lot running around in a few weeks time... Dobes have been known to have anyhting up to 14 pups too. I try not to imagine what I'd do if Ailsa ever dropped that lot on me.

Molly just looked offended and hid from the dogs when she was in season, but hopefully she won't be having another one- as much as I'd dearly love to bring her lovely chilled personality to a new generation, I know that there are too many unwanted pooches in the world so she's going to have a little operation in a couple of months.
