Switched on Outlook Express today and horrified to see
virus-infected messages arriving every minute.
Have Norton Anti-Virus but this simply says cannot repair.
So I just quarantine them.
Anybody got any suggestions for stopping the virus-infected
e-mails coming in ?

The best thing I can do is advise you to swap to a new email reader. Since most virii sent by email rely upon you using outlook then not using outlook will really help. the only thing you need to do then is ot open attachments. I would advise you download mozilla (which is a broswer with an email client) which can also defeat span in a single blow and importnantly is not outlook. http://www.mozilla.org. It will probably even learn to detect the virii if you keen getting the same one and delete them automatically.

Format your drive and start again and follow these simple rules:

1) Install anti-virus software
2) Install firewall software
3) Don't open up messages from people you don't know

I don't know how much simpler it could be. Radio 1 news reported today that 1 in 17 emails has a virus in it.

So what you're saying is that you can't get rid of them? Even if you have Norton Anti Virus Protection? What does quarantining do and can the worm still cause a problem after you quarantined them?

quarantining usually protects you from the worms.although annoying not all the virus' are harnful and don't actully do anything,but it does wind me up a bit too.
easiest option for emailing is to select a web based email i.e hotmail or yahoo for general surfing applications.these have spam blockers etc built in so you can delete the message without it opening as someone else has stated.only give your main email address if necessary.
as my dad always use to say "protection only costs a quid ,accidents cost a fortune".

Maybe worth starting again with a new email address - I know it's hard to change sometimes. If you do have 2 email addresses - use your new Outlook/mozilla one for people you know and don't give it out unless you trust that person and one other email address which is of the hotmail/yahoo/lycos type and use that for all the junk. That way you can minimise the hassle. Works for me anyway!
