I have a painting by Florence Fieldhouse. Someone told me that she used to sit painting in the old Hibberts art shop on Surrey Street and they let her have free materials to paint with. I think that my painting is of Tickhill village. Does anyone know anything about this lady?

Hi Teresa,

Florence Fieldhouse was my grandmother. What would you like to know? I'll ask my mum.

Thanks for getting back to me. Because I have this painting by her I am fascinated to know a little bit about both it and your grandmother.

It features a street of stone houses bathed in sunlight and in the foreground there is a lady with fair hair wearing an open blue coat and carrying a wicker shopping basket over her arm. Very 1940/50s style dress.

Someone suggested that it might be Tickhill that is pictured.

I just love it.

Hi Teresa,

I'm guessing it is Tickhill. She lived there happily for many years and I know she painted many pictures there. Do you have a photo of it you could send? If so, my email is kaysongs@hotmail.com

If I could let my mum see it, I'm sure I could tell you more about it.

Simon.
