baileys_mum 11-08-2007, 15:30 What is that he's eating?

I think its a mouse B_M
baileys_mum 11-08-2007, 16:02 EEP! You really should warn people that they are pics of a snake eating, and not just the snake ;)
sorry BM I couldn't edit the title, but I've added he's eating to the post :)
geckoqueen 12-08-2007, 11:29 Hello fellow snake person, they're lovely! Just on a cautionary note, you might want to feed it out of the tank on a flat surface. I lost a baby corn feeding on substrate (they can swallow chippings) - my adults are now fed on a flat peice of slate inside the tank.

You beat me to it LOL.
We'll certainly take that on board when me-laddo has saved up enough money to buy a proper viv as it's a bit crowded in this one....although he does usually take his feed into his log home to consume it.
thank you.

I find a good thing to do is buy a 24"X12" plastic tub from like morrisons and just put him in it for feeding what you will find is that he does not associate you opening the viv as feed time. And also you know he will never have the chance of swallowing substrate.
Some snake handlers bath their snakes once a week about 3-4 days after feeding and they poop in the water meaning more often than not meaning their viv stays relatively fresh and you have a nice hydrated snake.:D:D
But I was told not to handle after feeding in case he regurgitated....
Also he is fed every 4 days.
how do you bathe them?
carpetviper 13-08-2007, 17:30 well I feed mine every 7 days and I leave them for 24 hours after feeding.
to bath them is easy all you do it pop them in a bowl with luke warm water some love it some dont. I dont do it with all mine as only the little one likes it but it is really good to help them shed.
I'll give that a go then :D cheers
kittenta 14-08-2007, 20:34 We were told not to handle them for 24 hours before feeding too
kittenta 14-08-2007, 20:36 I'm glad I wasn't eating when I looked at that pic! As hard as it is for me to say Hayley, your snake is..erm..lovely (sorry I still can't cope with snakes, although I am improving :D)
carpetviper 15-08-2007, 08:01 Kittenta handling before eating only really matters for snakes that are fussy eaters. Two of my snakes will even eat while I am holding them.
oooer the way Listy strikes I wouldn't want to be holding him lol
Thanks K hows yours coming along?
carpetviper 15-08-2007, 10:38 My rat snakes eats normal size rats and he hits them very hard it still makes me jump sometimes lol

Decs is being very awkward at the minute, hiding and being very quiet. The corn is it's usual slimy, creepy self and keeps trying to slide the doors open :o thankfully he has a lock on them or i'd be camping in the garden :hihi:
carpetviper 15-08-2007, 15:07 there is a reason that thousands of corn snakes are called harry or houdini
mackie69 15-08-2007, 15:08 As opposed to Mr Prawn :hihi:
carpetviper 15-08-2007, 15:23 My baby corn is getting bigger now seeing as he is muncing 2 pinks a week now.
Have you got a pic of him CV? how old and long is he?
carpetviper 15-08-2007, 16:08 Have you got a pic of him CV? how old and long is he?
He is only a few months old He is one that I got from the lizard lounge at cost simply due to the fact he would not eat so i spent ages getting him to eat.
I will out some pictures on later befor and afters if I can find the early ones.
Please can I say though it is nice for a reptile shop to sell problem reptiles at cost to some nutter like me who doesn't mind spending the time and stressing himself out rather than some shops who sell to people with little experience or just leave them in the back corner of the shop as they dont have the time for them and they end up perishing.
So next time you guys do need something help the good guys at the lizard lounge out.
kittenta 15-08-2007, 16:38 So how old should they be before you feed them more than one pinky every five days?

oops very sorry the last one where he looks vacant is where he pooped on me mucky bugger.
how lovely, I remember seeing the wee fella who wouldn't eat. My son liked the look of him, but the guys explained his lack of feeding etc so we weren't allowed to have him.
carpetviper 16-08-2007, 09:07 That will have been boo boo.
As you can see he's doing fine now all it takes is patience time and having the experience and time to try new things to get them eating and believe me there are some strange things you can do to entice them to eat.
